I was there in April several years go so no problem driving down to the front and parking on the front. In summer I expect you may be directed to a "park and ride" lot or have a bit of a walk. There were several choice of boats doing tours of the calnques, they all seemed much of a much. The ride we chose was about an hour and interesting but not jaw-dropping. Lots of restaurants along the front but we didn't eat in Cassis due to timing.

We went in June 2010 and ate at a fabulous restaurant that had a private beach: Le Grande Large. Wonderful food and although we didn't use the beach, it appears you could rent/use showers there after your time in the sun. http://www.cassis-grand-large.com/
You book calanques cruises the day you plan on going. Numerous boats -- you just decide how many of the calanques you wish to see. Our cruise was about an hour or so and that was good enough for me. We booked an afternoon cruise right before lunching at the restaurant.
Parking is not easy -- you just need to search around. DH dropped DD and me off in the central port area and then searched for parking. Called us on his cell once he was entering the harbor area.

Hi JennyP1,
Cassis is a lovely sea side town. I rented an apartment there for a week last August. The town beach is great. You can have a nice swim there before or after the boat ride. The water was quite cool when we were there. I do not know if that was normal or not. There are a lot of restaurants and seafood is king. Have a fabulous trip.

Most of the boat tours are sold through a central office next to the harbor -- you can't miss it. When we were there in May, there were three tours: 3 calanques, more (maybe 5) and even more (maybe 7). But the longest one was already "sold out" before noon, so I'm not sure it was actually operating. We did the next longer one, which took maybe 90 minutes.
We bought our tickets, they told us which boat to get on, and when the boat filled up, it departed.
There are lots of restaurants along the waterfront. With your group size, you might want to try to make a reservation before you get on the boat. .
We were in Cassis on a Friday, which was market day until about 1:00.
