What has been the experience of Fodorites in obtaining a cash refund or a credit for future travel when the published price of a non-refundable ticket (for specific dates) is lowered after the ticket is purchased, but before the departure date? What airlines have given a cash refund for the difference? What airlines have given credit for future travel?

I've gotten credit for future travel from USAirways.

We bought our tickets in Jan. on Continental for Europe in May. The price has gone down drastically. CO will give us a $200. credit per person if we pay a $100. change fee per person. We must also use the credit within the year.

In my experience you never get any cash--only credit toward a future ticket.

You hardly ever get refund or credit when the fare goes down with budget airlines like easyJet and Ryanair.

GAC I received credit from Continental when a fare dropped last fall (October). At that time, I was told there is no change fee IF you accept the electronic credit for future travel, which is good for one year. If you want a cash refund, you pay the change fee. <BR><BR>Since Wags experience is more recent, the policy may have changed to always charge the change fee. If your flight is on CO I'd check anyway, sometimes you get different answers from different agents.

I've only ever tried this with Southwest and they are only too willing to give credit.
