Hi Mucky. How kind of you to think of us. DH has been excitedly lookimg forward to this for weeks Afterwards he didn't seem *that* thrilled, though - I think he said it was "promising".

I used the time to catch up on old articles about Morrissey Though I had the odd look up when it seemed to be featuring scenery I know. In the first one, could you work out where the entrance to Torchwood was ? It seemed like it was underneath Mermaid Quay, maybe ?

loved the shot when they were on the roof of the WMC. There was also a shot with captain Jack on top of a big white building. Looked like one of the many apartments blocks that have been springing up in Cardiff. Mucky did you recognise it.

Hi Caroline, Indeed I do recognise it.
It is an apartment block which is about 200 metres from the Big Sleep.
Come out of the entrance turn left and keep walking, its on the same side.
It was a private school and the original (possibly listed)facade has been kept and this gigantic apartment block has appeared behind it using the old facade as the entrance. It's wonderful to see and probably even better from the top floor or even better where they were stood.

looked like they were facing south.

Cheers

Hi Mucky. I wasn't me who asked about that but it could have been – DH described this building to me, wondered what it was, then read on a DW message board that it was an apartment block. He evidently didn't recognise it as the building next door to where we stayed the other week ! (I think I was asleep by this time ) We did think it looked like a cool building when we walked past.

Caroline, there was a convention of your surnamed people in the WMC tonight. They were all taking their passports to confirm surname and the Guinness book of records people were trying to count the number of ******* that were in one place at the same time. Thought you would have been there...lol. Music by artists with the same surname too.....lol

How's Torchwood going? Been away and not seen it at all !!
Ciao

The put Splott (the real birth place of Shirley Bassey) on the map during last weeks episode.

Hi Mucky. Yes, it was a shame we couldn't make it ! Did they break the record, do you know ?

Haven't been bothering with Torchwood myself but DH seems to be enjoying it !

Crazychick, I thought Shirley Bassey was famously from Tiger Bay ? Splott just doesn't sound as exotic, does it

Indeed they did break the record.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/sou...6112714.stm?ls

Shirley B is credited with growing up in Tiger bay which doesn't really exist anymore; it's known as Cardiff Bay these days. However she did in fact go to school in Moorland rd Primary school which is in Splott.
Splott is quite close to Cardiff bay.

Here is some stuff on Splott

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splott

Splott today maintains its character, it is still a working class area. It is in fact a very well catered for area now with lots of money being spent on community things.

Traditional native Welsh families are disapearing from the area and families of all Nationalities now live there, now thats exotic...lol
It's also a prime area for student rental.

I stand correct I have just checked my facts. My next door neighbour(when I was grwoing up) was in school with her sister, a few years older than Shirley. They grew up in Portmanmoor road and went to splott school.
Sorry It seems she was born in Tiger Bay but moved to Splott when she was about 2 years old. hence most of us leaving in or near Splott think of her as a Splott girl as that is where she grew up.

What a wealth of info ! Thanks Mucky.

Sorry crazychick but a Splott girl just doesn't sound as exotic as a Tiger Bay girl, does it ? (Less frightening perhaps though !)
