Kemwell $183.50 + road fee = $190.85 Auto Europe $221.40 for Fiat Punto all inclusive. Kemwell will guarantee rate or give you cash back.

That's high, but that's Italy. We spent around $600 for 10 days for a Punto on our recent trip to Italy. I don't know if you'll find anything cheaper.

$61.00 a day seems high, though in Italy you are obligated to pay for theft insurance, which ups the price. I'd check AutoEurope to make sure the price is legit.

3 day rates will be high, weekly rates are more reasonable when broken down to a daily rate for comparison sake. If Kemwel is quoting better, go with them. I've used both Kemwel and Autoeurope and most recently actually Hertz had a better rate.

We got a very good deal for a Florence - Florence week's rental from Hertz earlier in the year. They looked after us well, with an Opel which suited four passengers and four suitcases admirably.

Check the differences in insurance.

Kemwel and AE are both owned by the same people and are sister companies. I would be surprised if there is any real differences other than coverage.

Ira - The quotes are with a city pick up two daily fees which added $13.95 total of $197.45.

I just called Hertz quote was $308 w/5% discount.

www.cheapcarrental.com was $157 all the same stuff as above. Fiat Punto 1.25 A/C with Thirfty. Getting it down to $52.33 a day. 866-800-3168 This is getting confusing.

I'm always amazed when people say they are offered the best rates from Hertz. I'm curious if that's because they are using some big corporate account or code. Or sometimes because it's quoted in euro as opposed to the dollars of AutoEurope, and people don't notice the difference.

I'm curious what "guarantee the rate or give you cash back" means. Does that mean if you get there and they won't meet their quote, they'll return your deposit? Or does it mean even if you haven't paid, they'll give you that much cash back anyway when you don't take the car because it's being quoted differently.

Patrick - I didn't even ask about that today I would like to go with the lowest if it's apples to apples. All my quotes are in USD and I didn't have any coupons for Hertz or Avis. It's too early.

Last trip to Italy Hertz gave me the best rate, maybe a flook. Usually I book with Autoeurope but always check them all, you never know. No, I'm not on any big corp account or other discount program and I'm certainly smart enough to know the difference between euros and dollars.

We got our best price through Hertz too. Is it that surprising that they would have good rates?

Hertz generally doesn't have the best rates, in fact they typically are on the very high side. Yes it is surprising, surprised me....why I even checked I don't know, other than I like to be thorough
