I agree on the merits of autoeurope. I've rented through them several times--the couple of times that the rental company (once Avis and once National) messed things up, one phone call to Autoeurope cleared everything up right away.

I would also recommend Autoeurope. I have never had a problem with them. They also guarantee to beat and confirmable rate.

I even rented a car in Spain once and returned it early. After calling them they had no problem refunding for the unused portion of the rental!

I did try them and unfortunately, they cannot secure an automatic for me, so I've given up on that idea and will now travel via plane and ferries.

Thanks LittleVicky, I tried and to no avail. I think I'll rent one NOW for perhaps next year's trip if I'm lucky enough to travel there again - hahaha
