Car rental return from Annecy to Geneva.Ok to return on swiss or french side

We are staying in Annecy , France. We are flying out of the Geneva airport too Nice. Car rentals are much cheaper returning to swiss side of airport than French side. Will this be a problem ? Should we bite the bullet and pay the $100 extra to return to Hertz on French side as opposed to Alamo on Swiss side. Thank you.

I am confused by your qns - if you rent a car in Annecy you must return it on the French side to avoid the hefty country/border charge.

Another option: Return the car in Annecy and take a bus to Geneva's airport.

There is a real problem at the GVA airport crossing from the Swiss to the French (or vice versa) sectors. Only those holding a boarding pass for the current day's date are now allowed to cross from one side to the other. IF you rent the car in Annecy and want to return it at the GVA airport AND are flying out same day you are fine. If not - rent the car in Switzerland...
