Car rental in Tuscany

I plan to rent a car in Florence and drop it off in Orvieto 6 days later (then take the train to Rome). I am looking for rental car company suggestions and any other good tips. I have read good and bad on other sites about different companies and people's experience.

You probably can't go wrong with Hertz, who have convenient offices in both places. 3 years ago I rented a car in Venice, drove through Tuscany, and dropped the car off at rome-fiumicino airport and it was fine. Not sure why you don't want to just drive into Rome and drop off there, however. many other folks on these threads have endorsed AutoEurope (AE) - I have not heard anything bad, but have no experience with them. Have your ever rented in Europe before?

We always use AutoEurope too. One time we rented a car in Florence(not difficult to get to the autostrada from location) and adter a xouple of weeks in Tuscany, dropped it off at FCO.

Yes, AE or Kemwel are best. But, call them to book and be sure you use Hertz since the best drop off location in Orvieto happens to be Hertz.

Not sure why you don't want to just drive into Rome and drop off there, however. >>

1. because it can be difficult and stressful to drive in Rome.

2. Because it gives one the opportunity to see Orvieto, which IMO should not be missed, at least the front of the Duomo. [park the car and see the town first, then drop the car off, so that you've got somewhere to store your luggage. AND check the drop off times at the hire car depot].
