Car Rental in Slovenia
I have been considering participating in a group tour in Central/Eastern Europe that ends in Slovenia. Although the tour does include the northern section of Croatia I'm thinking of renting a car after the tour is over in Slovenia and driving down the Dalmation Coast and ending in Dubrovnik.
I have not been able to find any car rental fare quotes for renting a car in Slovenia and dropping off in Dubrovnik (would like to fly home from there). It would probably be a total of 5 days for the rental car.
I know there will most likely be a large drop off fee for this but would like to find out the prices before I make any plans. I'm wondering if since Croatia is not yet a full EU country this may be why I am not able to rent in an EU country and drop off in a non-EU country?
If anyone has any "words of wisdom" on renting a car in Slovenia and driving/dropping off in Croatia please share them with me.
Thanks so much!

Hi
I agree Autoeurope is probably the best place to get a quote. It's a beautiful drive that takes several hours. We rented 3 yrs. ago in Slovenia but we returned it there. The only problem we had was that we could not rent the car in Italy and bring it to Croatia. It doesn't matter if the country is part of the EU. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Last fall we flew to Ljubljana and intended to drive to Dubrovnik. We rented through Autoeurope. At this point I can't remember whether there was an enormous dropoff charge or that the rental companies simply would not permit a Croatia dropoff but we encountered the same problem. We solved it by taking the train from Ljubljana to Zagreb and renting the car there. As I recall, the trip by train took about 2 1/2 hours and cost $42 for the two of us in first class.

I think we may now take the train to Rijeka and then Ferry down the coast to Hvar and end in Dubrovinik!
