Car rental in Nice

I am plannning to visit Nice in June and would like to rent car, but not for the entire trip. I would like to pick up the car the day after I land in Nice. Is it best to return to the airport to get the car, or is there another location in Nice that I could walk to, or take a short bus or taxi ride? Or is it best to just get it from the airport? Thanks.

Europecar (which we usually get by booking with autoeurope.com) has a downtown office just behind the Le Meridien hotel--which is on the Promenade des Anglais. It's a walk of about 3 blocks from Vieux Nice, if that helps.

We usually pick up cars at the train station. I believe there is an added fee for airport pickup.

Thank you. Wonder why my travel agent didn't tell me abut that fee. I will pick up a car at one of the locations that were mentioned here. Thank you very much.

Is this the correct location of the railstation in Nice: 14 Avenue Thiers? I think there's only one railstation in Nice but I'm not sure. Thanks

That address sounds like the main train station (Nice Ville). A number of the major rental companies have counters there. There may also be some other locations (I think Hertz has 5, for example) which might be even more convenient. It is quite common to have an extra tax/surcharge for airport rentals, both in US and Europe, related to the costs of operating at the airport. The airport office will tend to have longer hours and more car selection, but it doesn't sound like you would need that.
