car rental in Calais on Sunday
We are traveling from London to Calais on a Sunday in Sept. We had planned on renting a car and driving to Caen, however, I can't find a rental car place open in Calais on a Sunday. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

rentalcars indicate a rental possible in ... Deauville, about 40 kms (guess there are trains).

Guess again - well there are trains but on Sunday only one of which takes less than 8 hours - most take more than that and all seem to go thru Paris - check buses but on Sundays - did you check to see if Calais-Frethun - the Eurostar station for Calais has cars - it is several kms from Calais.
I'd try Lille and take the Eurostar to there - seems at the Lille Europa station or the nearly adjacent Lille Flandres station there should be cars to go on Sunday. More convenient than Calais anyway if coming from London by Eurostar train.

Well yes you could take the Eurostar to Paris and a train or rental car from there out to where you want to start your trip - would be the best way probably all told - may even save a day on a car rental. Trains to Caen take about 2 hours from Paris or about 5 from London via Paris.

Visit the SNCF.com site. They have a deal with Avis...if you pick up at a train station and the Avis office is closed, a railway employee will handle the rental. Here's a link:

Deauville must have moved because the Deauville I know is 290 kilometers from Calais!
It's true that all of the main rental companies have Sunday solutions... for a price. Sometimes you sign the contract and pick up the keys at a nearby hotel or service station.
