We've often rented a car from this airport, but we shopped from home at picked up the car at the desk there.

So, go on-line and seek out your best deal from any of the major companies. Also try http://www.autoeurope.com/

(I've always arranged it so that we had the car for precisely a one-week increment - three weeks in our case. This was the most cost effective.)

For a data point...In two months I need a one day, one way rental from Blackpool to Manchester Airport. Hertz gave the best deal by a wide margin.

Petrol prices don't vary much by region in Britain, but they vary a lot by location. Currently they're running 72-78p per litre, and higher in very remote locations and in motorway service stations.

They're lowest at, and immediately around, major supermarkets (and if you're planning on picnicking, Tesco and Sainsbury now frequently offer 2-4p/litre money off vouchers with grocery purchases), and in areas where there's a public-spirited aggressive discounter to force the majors down.

There almost always seem to be especially low prices along the M53 corridor from the Welsh border to Birkenhead.

On my calcs that means that UK petrol is well over double the aussie price...in $A..can this be correct?

More importantly..how does the price of beer compare?
