Car hire Inverness

We will have a week based in a timeshare at Aviemore and plan to do quite a deal of day-tripping. We are thinking of either flying into Inverness or into Glasgow to hire a car for the week. Does anyone know a cheap car rental firm in Glasgow? Can we hire a car cheaply in Inverness?

You definitely cannot rent cheaper in Inverness or any of the smaller towns. Flying to Inverness is also expensive. Where are you flying from in the first place - elsewhere in the UK? If so and you have a car there just keep it and drive to Scotland.

Or if you don't have a car earlier in your trip - Every international and national company plus several local car hire firms are located Glasgow and Edinburgh. (Hertz, Avis, Budget, Thrifty, many UK-based firms, etc.)

Renting from Inverness only complicates things since presumably you have to get back to Glasgow or Edinburgh to fly home.

if you fly to Scotland it really doesn't matter if you fly into Glasgow or Edinburgh because the drive to Aviemore would be about the same. A little faster from Edinburgh.

Janis is quite right that you are unlikely to get a flight from outside the UK to Inverness, but she may not know that Inverness is on the Easyjet netweork which means if you are flying from inside the UK, or linking with another Easyjet flight at Luton, you can get there very cheaply indeed.

Whilst thee are almost certainly no "deals" on car hire, Avis and Hertz and Europcar all have desks at Inverness airport.

All of these companies would allow you to drop off elsewhere if that's what you needed to do.

Hope this helps. Have a great trip, and don't hesitate to ask if we can do any more

Sheila: Didn't know about the EasyJet service to I'ness. Thanks for the update.

But that still leaves the problem of getting to Luton, etc.

Jim: Give us more info re where you will be BEFORE your time at Aviemore and we can give you better advice on what's the best thing to do.

Thank you for your help. Our itinerary prior to Scotland is still uncertain. Much of our accommodation in the UK, Spain and Mexico will be in timeshare places. Prior to Scotland, we will probably spend 9 days in Ireland. Most probably we will leave Belfast by boat and pick up a hire car at the Scottish end of the ferry. We would then drive through Dumfries and spend a night at Stirling before driving to Aviemore. Alternatively, if these plans don't fall into place, we will fly from Dublin to either Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness. We may try to finalise the car hire from Australia. Thank you again.
