Capri in October

We are going to Positano and Rome for 10 days in October - -here is our tentative plan -

leave NYC friday - arrive in Rome Sat morning -
Sat morn -- take train to Positano
Sun - Positano (explore other towns in this area
Mon - -Positano
Tues - Positano
Wed - Positano (leave in evening for train to Rome)
Thurs - Rome
Fri - Rome
Sat - Rome
Sun - Rome
Mon - leave for home

Question is -- should we add a night in Capri before we go to Rome? I heard that the hydrofoil may not run in Oct.... Is Capri nice in October or will the weather be too cool to enjoy properly?

Thanks

I usually go to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast area including Capri in October. I have taken the hydrofoil to Capri from Sorrento in October. Look for daytime temperatures in the 70s and evenings between high 50s to low 60s throughout the area.

A couple things to think about though. Do you really want to travel from Rome to Positano immediately upon arriving from an all night flight from the USA?Maybe you already know this but there is no train service to Positano. You can take the Trenitalia train from Rome to Naples (2 to 2 1/2 hrs depending on which train) and then transfer to the Circumvensuviana Railway from Naples to Sorrento. (70 minutes) or train from Rome to Salerno but then it's bus, limo or taxi from Sorrento or Salerno to Positano. Makes for a very long trip from NYC.

To me Capri is worth a daytrip but not more than that but then I never thought Positano was worth more than a day or two either. It's beautiful but you have to be a mountain goat to get around town and there's not much to do there. I base myself at Sorrento and make daytrips to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello by all means, Atrani train trip to Pompeii (30 minutes),

I would highly suggest spending at least one night in Capri. Capri is very touristy if you are only visiting for the day. After the last ferry leaves around 8 pm it is very lovely. We consider it our favorite spot in Italy. Many of the day visitors only look around the town square and don't explore the beautiful parts of the island, as well as Anacapri. We were in southern italy at the beginining of October and had good weather, with one day of rain.
We traveled from St.Louis to Rome and immediately took train to Naples and hydrofoil to Capri. We did this due to limited vacation time and it was very manageable. After we left Capri we went to Sorrento and rented a car for our week touring the Amalfi coast. You will have a wonderful time.

I concure with Letah, Capri is one of my favorite places in the world,You really have to spend at least one night there, to get a true feeling for Capri.
It's like going to Venice on a day trip, it's a totaly different place at night after all the day trippers leave.

The hydrfoil schedule will still be running to Capri, but proably on a lmited schedule check out www.caprionline.com for lots of info. on Capri.

We were in Capri in October last year. A very few places were closed, most places don't close until November. The best part was that we got really good off season rates.
I really liked Capri and would absolutely suggest it for a night or two.
