Cannes hotel ???
I am looking for a nice hotel in Cannes. Everything that I have seen on the web is very extravagant and not very romantic (ie - the Carlton). We will be honeymooning and would like a smaller hotel with character...a seaview would be nice also. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Hi Sarah!

Personally, I would not choose Cannes as a honeymoon destination. I didn't care for it at all, except for the very oldest part of the town. It's bigger than you think, with bad traffic & lots of high rise condos & hotels.

I would recommend St. Tropez, although it's hard to do day trips from due to drive times. Maybe St. Paul du Vence? Eze? Others can probably recommend some wonderful inns/hotels in other towns.

Just my opinion. To me, Cannes was way too much like home - Newport Beach, CA. Extremely overpriced for no reason but the name.

I wasn't going to say anything but because someone else did...I agree 100% with the above posting. I have been to Cannes several times for business and wouldn't visit for any other reason, nor pay the ridiculous prices for hotels or food there.Luckily that area of France is full of lovely towns and nice hotels, mainly up in the hills overlooking the sea. So you should have no trouble finding places to stay which are more beautiful and more fairly priced. Then you can visit Cannes for the day (if you really want to). Just my two Euro cents.

I was in Cannes in early June just after the Film Festival we stayed at the Mahestic which was wonderful. I met people that were staying in Nice and Eze, They were miserable in Nice the beach view hotels were out of the way and not within walking distance of cafes and restauraunts. Eze again nothing with in walking distance.
In Cannes we could walk to the beach, hotel had Pool, restaurants, shops and casinos. We enjoyed it and loved Cannes and would love to go back. Sorry if we like being treated well and waited on hand and foot.

Dear Sarah;
like several other posters I think Cann is not at all romantic or interesting.
Saint Paul de Vance is beautiful I mean really amazing and romantic; but it's in the hills so you would not have the sea view you wish for. See www.karenbrown for hotel info. in Saint Paul de Vance.
Provence is very beautiful with many romantic places to stay.
You might consider contacting Bob the Navigator on this site I know Italy is his thing ; but I bet he could stear you in the right direction.My advice is do a little more research.
St. Tropez is like nowhere you have ever been and very romantic; also Cap Farret and Antibbes (spelling ) would be good choices and allow you to do day trips.
Congratulations on your marrige
Sherri
to the top for Sarah
