The splurge in the La Tenda Rossa's certainly much larger than the one in the Cane e Gatto!

I'd certainly experiment the former once it's on my list for ages ... Why? Simply because it's listed as one of the best 20 restaurants in Italy by Gambero Rosso, a gourmet guide written by Italians for Italians, and which never has let me down.

Paulo

Though I can not speak for La Tenda Rossa we went to Cane e Gato on our trip to Italy and it was definitely our most memorable evening. Exquisite food and delightful service - we felt like part of the family. It was a long meal - a few hours and we thought everything was positively wonderful. If we were within an hour drive of Cane e Gato, we would detour just to eat in this restaurant again.

Cane e Gato (in Siena) was recommended to us by two of our friends. I second Amy's comments. This was truly a dining experience. The food and wine was exquisite. The menu is fixed each nite so there are no choices but it is a 5-6 course event. The service was wonderful. The restaurant is not that big (around 18-20 people) so I suggest that you make a reservation.

another vote for Cane e Gatto..you may remember we were trying to figure out if we could eat here and drive an hour back to our villa. It all worked out and the food was fantastic and the ambience delightful. The owner, his wife and daughter all work there and he is a lovely man. We spent almost 5 hours there (and I wondered how anyone could eat for 5 hours!!) and the time flew by.
One of our best!

If you can only spend IT once in Tuscany, then there is no question whatsoever! You go to the Villa San Michele in Fiesole, just above Florence, and you spend the most marvellous time falling in love again as you are gazing at the most beautiful view in the world and eating and drinking exquisitely........ FINITO!

Dinner for two will run you about $125 and it is well worth it.

In 2000, we left our bag on a bus from San Gimignano to Siena. We were sure it was gone forever and everything was in it...money, passports, trainpass, EVERYTHING. However, some kind person turned it in to the San G police dept. It was completely intact. To celebrate, we went to the Cane e Gatto and I was delighted to pay with my newly returned credit card. It was a delightful experience. Your hotel will make a reservation for you. A hint...the Hotel Antica Torre is just a block away from the restaurant. Enjoy!
