canada to florence via munich customs question
Our family has booked a flight from Canada to Florence, with a change of planes in Munich. Connections were rather tight originally, and now the leg from Munich to Florence has been moved to 15 minutes earlier. Does anyone know if Customs clearance has to take place in Munich (we are afraid the lineups will cause us to miss our connecting flight)?

Did I miss something---you are travelling form Canada ultimate destination is Florence.Which is in Italy. You change planes in Munich, which is in Germany. If all you are doing in Germany is changing planes, you will not need to go thru customs/immigration.You only need to go thru customs/immigration when you are entering a country to travel, not to change planes.Again, unless I missed something you will go thru customs upon arrival in Florence.
BB

Canada, how many hours do you have to spareto connect in Munich?

I hope you are flying the same airlines to Florence and from Canada because they will be obligated to put you on a later flight if you miss your plane. In october we were changing planes there and almost did not make it having two hours. I hope you will do better.
Call your airlines you are flying with and tell them about your concerns. You not flying with Air Canada, are you? I hope

We fly Air Canada to Munich, then connect with Lufthansa. The tickets were booked with Expedia. The Lufthansa leg has moved up, so we only have an hour to connect (I know we'll miss the connection). We phoned Expedia to try and change the 2nd flight, but didn't have any luck -- I think I'll have to try again.

I don't think that BeachBoi is correct, because I travel into MUC all the time (it's often my final destination) and, as has been my experience, you go through passport control, no matter if you're staying in Munich or if you're connecting to another flight. This is true because I think the only exit out of the plane leads you to the passport control kiosks.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

But, don't worry, passport control is a breeze in Munich (at least for U.S. citizens like myself). I never encounter a line of more than 5 people. You will not have to worry about customs, provided your bags are checked through to Florence. Simply walk through the exit doors and get to your next flight.

1 hour should be sufficient time to connect in Munich, because the airport is efficiently laid out (unlike the sprawling Frankfurt airport). Your bags might not make it, however, on such a tight connection, so take an extra change of clothes in your carry-on!

As Germany and Italy are both Schengen zone countries, you will go through immigration (passport control) in Munich. You will automatically pass an immigration checkpoint on your way from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Customs (bag check) will be at your final destination (Florence). So no need to re-claim your bags at Munich. Make sure the check-in agent in Canada labels your bags all the way to Florence.
