Can someone give me an overview of Cinque Terra ?

From the train station, there is a huge flight of terraced stairs up the hill. Likewise, there is a little local shuttle bus to get you into the town part. The Cinque Terre is nice and relaxing. At least by end of Sept most of the crowds will be gone so should be pleasant.
Since you are there for 4 days, you might take a day trip up to see Genoa, then 1/2 day down to Portovenere, see Portofino, etc. so adding variety to your stay. The 5 CT towns are all easily seen within 1 day so you can venture out and explore Liguria. Buon viaggio!
