Can I take snacks with my luggage/hand luggage
We're flying with Lufthansa to Italy
Can we take snacks (all vacuumed) (biltong, nuts, protien bars) with our luggage or hand luggage??
Or what are we allowed to take with? any suggestions

Actually, the EU has relaxed its rules about importing small amounts of meat for personal consumption. Here is the official journal of the EU, if you can decode it:
http://www.fsai.ie/uploadedFiles/Leg...eg206_2009.pdf
Ireland has a more understandable summary of the rules in English:
http://www.fsai.ie/faq/import_export.html
Point 4 is the relevant rule for animal products.

If you read that first document again bvlenci you will see that all meat and dairy products from outside the EU and a couple of other European countries are NOT permitted into the EU. The weight allowance for such products is 0kg. Only baby milk and food products required for a special diet are allowed.
Even in the second document it clearly states : You may only bring in or send to the EU personal consignments of meat and milk and their products (other than powdered infant milk, infant food, and special foods or special pet feed required for medical reasons) provided that they come from the Faeroe Islands, Greenland, or Iceland, and their weight does not exceed 10 kg per person.
So the biltong needs to be eaten before it lands.
Beef is especially suspect due to foot and mouth disease.

You can take any snacks as long as there is not liquid involved over 3.4 ounces. Yougurt is a liquid. Some canned fruit has liquid but not enough to worry about it. If you have a medical condition you can take ensure or other liquids though. Just tell the security people and but don't go crazy with the amount.

I often take my dinner when I fly to Europe. You can pass through US airport security with food in containers--roasted vegetables, sandwiches, containers of cut-up fruit, etc. You cannot bring yogurt, as mentioned above, or any liquids. I am talking about what you can take with you through security, not what you can bring into Italy. (I bring food FROM Italy, not the reverse!)
