Can a techie help?Is something wrong with my browser?

I feel so dumb. What's the deal with my screen? The left-hand "posts" column is too big for the space making it impossible to read the post without moving the wrap-around bar at the bottom of the column. Is there something wrong with my browser? Help!

Same problem here. Last week it was inability to post replies and garbage on a lot of messages. Now this. Fodors must be experimenting.

It has something to do with a poster posting a really long title, I think, not anything to do with your browser. Someone will tell you exactly what it is, but it does happen from time to time.

Suki is right, someones title or a too long link included in an answer, makes the whole page out of whack..to put it in technical terms
When that thread drops to the next page, all will be right with the world again~

Seems like Fodor's could design the "post" site in such a fashion to keep this from happening...like limiting the space to some reasonable number. That might force folks to really think about their question and how to phrase it suscintly.

I think the problem is the the post's title had no spaces between words, just punctuation things like "/". Nowhere to break the line, so it ended up long.

Here's the troublemaker, now in the 39th position:

LONDON QUESTION:Hoxton/Shoreditch/Spitalsfield

The backslash prevented the line from wrapping.

Please don't top it anymore, just to tell the OP that it created the problem.

I had the same problem until about two hours ago; now things are sort of back to normal.

I am the original poster...and I now understand the problem. Thank you to all who contributed to the explanation. I did ask what I think to be a reasonable question: Do you suppose Fodor's could design a site that could keep this from happening? Maybe I'm just being picky. No one really tells you the "rules of posting" before you actually post. No wonder this happens.

Hi mk,

A couple of suggestions:

In your title, put a space after symbols such as /.

In your text, if you have a long URL, copy the URL, go to www.tinyurl.com and paste it there.

You will get a short URL to copy and paste to your post.

I don't think this problem will ever go away. There have been discussions about this and suggestions about fixing it (as opposed to not responding) but no go.

The Hoxton/Shoreditch/Spitalsfield post has been resurrected. As noted above, if there are no spaces the line of print doesn't wrap.
