We're planning to stop in Cambridge in mid-March. Would be really grateful for any suggestions re good hotels or B&Bs and good places to eat.

There are so many great restaurants in Cambridge...what do you like? I recommend the two Indian restaurants on St. Andrews St. I also like Browns on Trumpington (although some tour books slam it, I have never had a bad meal there, and it is reasonable.)

Can't really help with hotels, we always rent an apartment...but there is one on Trumpington that I thought looked cute and was really well located. Maybe someone on this board will remember the name..?

As was mentioned on the other one, can't really help w/ accomodation recommendations w/o knowing your budget.

Now that you have figured out how this works -- we still need a price range. W/o knowing how much you plan to pay we can't really give you useful ideas.

We stayed at the Lensfield Hotel a couple of years ago and liked it. Comfortable room, decent breakfast,helpful resident owners.

Can't really recommend the food or service at Henry's, but the location at Magdalene Street and Quayside can't be beat. The view from the windows on a nice day is worth the aggravation.

I love Aunties Tea Shop (1 St. Mary's Passage). It's located next to Market Square where you can get all sorts of food -- try a Po Boy while you're there.

seetheworld...I noticed you recommended Aunties Tea Shop. I was about to post that was the only place I would not recommend! I have been there about a half dozen times (the location is the best) and I always have horrible service (forget things, don't recheck tables, etc.) and mediocre food. And I am always resentful that they add the tip to the bill first. I usually tip more than average, even for not so great service. But, that said, I usually agree with your posts so will give it one more try this summer when we go back! I have not tried a Po Boy.

If the Blue Boar is still up and running, it's a nice hotel with a good dining room.

Stephcar, we'll try it again when we return this summer also! We visit family and linger when in Cambridge, so it is entirely possible that slow service at Aunties has gone unnoticed by me.

seetheworld, how funny. Maybe I will actually sit next to you at Aunt Annies. We will be there mid-July through August. DH teaches a course at one of the colleges there.

I stayed Lensfield Hotel about 18 months ago and agree with an earlier poster that the service was very good (it is a family-run hotel) and the breakfast execellent. From memory it is about 5-10 miniutes walk into the centre
I fould Aunties Tea house very expensive, the service was poor and the tables seemed a bit squashed together.

In my view Cambridge doesn't have a great reputation for restaurants. There are a number of midprice ok chain places but suprisingly limited at the top end. You can do better in some of the surrounding villages but you will need to drive or take a taxi. Very expensive is Midsummer House (2 michelin stars) but very pricey and overrated to my mind. 22 Chesterton Road is pretty good.

Best hotel in town (actually a couple of miles from the centre) is Hotel Felix. A conversion done in modern style.
