No help on breakfast but for dinner I have two suggestions--A la Biche au Bois, 45 Ave. Ledru Rollin, metro Gare de Lyon or Bastille, and Le Square Trousseau 1 rue Antoine Vollon, metro Ledru Rollin. The former is a very packed place (side by side tables) with lots of regulars not far from the Viaduct des Arts--Ave. Daumesnil. The latter is a beautiful old place with mirrors and carved ceilings next to the Square Trousseau which is close to the Aligre market and the Red Baron wine bar. Fun area.

I always end up having at least one dinner at Le Dalou, 30 Place de la Nation. It's a very decent value and while it may be nothing REALLY special, I've just always kind of liked the place. Over the years, I've come to appreciate the characters that serve there, too.
Here's a quick link that won't tell you a ton more than I've said here, but you'll see a pic of the building you're looking for:

Bon appetit!

I have not been to these three but they are choices of the "Wine Spectator""
wine lover's guide to Paris issue.
Le Square Trousseau, 1 rur Antoine Vollon
Le Baron Rouge, 1 rue Theophile Roussel
Le Viaduc Cafe, 43 Ave. Daumesil

Cigalechanta, when did Wine Spectator publish a Wine Lover's guide to Paris? I prefer that magazine's travel suggestions to all others and would love to read/keep what they have to recommend.
cmeyer54, if you're staying near the Vincennes metro stop, you are truly near the very edge of Paris. I'll try to look back over some travel notes and recommend some other places for you. Be prepared for lots of metro rides. Hope Le Greve is over soon.

The apartment is gratis from a colleague at work so I can't get too concerned over a few metro stops! With 6 full days for sightseeing,we should have enough time for the major sites plus Versailles. thanks for the suggestions.

cmeyer, sorry my recommendations are a ways from the Picpus metro station. I'm not familiar with the area near there. The 12th is a pretty large arrondissment. It would be worth your while to take the metro to Michel Bizot stop and find the rue de Capri on which sits Les Zygomates bistro. It's quite beautiful with painted ceilings and bevelled mirrors and glass and has wonderful food for reasonable prices.
Enjoy!!
Enjoy!!
