Café du Dôme in Paris on Blvd Montparnasse
I tried to find this one with a search, but nothing turned up in response to any one of several variant spellings and accenting.

So question: If you have eaten there, give my your opinion, likes and dislikes.

I am curious because it is close to the hotel I will be using. The decision of course being: eat there or go elsewhere??

Actually, this a pretty good restaurant...on of the last of the lost generation, loud, boisterous, but it IS a bistro!

Fantastic oysters and champagne, the chef is classically trained so traditional *French Bistro* fare is served...

I think the atmosphere is fun...I tire of the quiet quaint places every now and then, and Dome is a great break away into the *hustle and bustle* of a Paris bistro!

It depends on how long you are staying...I can recommend several fantastic places in your quartier if you prefer something more quiet and intimate...but when I think of the roaring 20's and ambiance, this is it.

Best and Bon Appetit,
Wendy

I am open to suggestions in the Raspail-Montparnasse area.
The last time I was in that area I found no place to which I will return.
La Petite Leo was poor and an Italian place on Raspail was not very good either.

I know La Coupole is along Blvd. Montparnasse between Raspail and the Montparnasse Tower.

But I welcome suggestions in the Edgar Quinet, Raspail, Montparnasse region.
I am looking for a good place to eat that is in the bistro or restaurant category, and a cut or two above Bistro de la Gare. Preferably it is in the area surrounding the intersection of Raspail and Montparnasse, let us say within a kilometer of that intersection.
I understand that there is also a Le Bistro du Dôme that specializes in fish dinners on rue Delambre, which is a side street leading off of Edgar Quinet to Blvd. Raspail.
Auburge Venise is on the same street.

I could walk around and find something, but that strategy failed the last time I was there and I was hoping to better my chances by asking.

I tried a search as I stated in the opening statement. I have used this forum enough to know the ins and outs of the search function; and certainly the intracacies of boolean logic are within my grasp -- having used and, or, not, in complex combinations in the days when I wrote PL/I programs.

Hi, Bob! One that has been highly recommended here is Le Caméléon on rue Chevreuse, just off Montparnasse. If you do a search for Chevreuse (rather than cameleon which has variant spellings), you will find a lot of info on restaurants in the area (some of which you've posted, so maybe you have it all already). We tried for le Bistro du Dome, since it has good recs, but hadn't made reservations, so no luck.

BothLe Cameleon and Bistro du Dome are excellent; you need to book. Le Dome itself is known for being a good but overpriced fish restaurant. Nearby, you can also try Chez Marcel on rue Stanislas, L'O a la Bouche on blvd du Montparnasse, and Les Bouchons de la Grille on rue Campaign Premiere (there are several cute restaurants on this street). If you want to have a special meal and don't mind spending some money, Le Maxence is a very good Michelin one-star on blvd du Montparnasse near rue de Sevres. La Marine right near Bistro de la Gare is a good beer bar with cheap beer-type food, including mussels. My favorite cafe in this area is Cafe de la Place, just in front of metro Edgar Quinet. Have fun.

Thanks to all of you who responeded.
I also found again a thread on the general subject of the 14th Arr, which, as I write this, is a few stops down the Fodors list below this thread.

The thread on the 14th in general has a good listing of places to eat, so much so that I now need to study it at length.

I had forgotten about a couple of them.
At any rate I have a long working list now of places to eat close to my hotel.
