Susanna,
Could you tell me a bit more about Dot? It sounds intriguing - what is the street address? I will be in Paris in March also, and am stopping at Dehillerin to add a copper pot to my collection - talk about heavy!
Thanks,
Baz

We checked out E. Dehillerin
18 et 20, rue Coquillière a cookware supply store. My daughter wanted to puchase a LC pot but it was much too heavy to carry home. At Dehillerin they said they could beat the prices at Williams-Sonoma. You also might try Ebay. I just was looking there and found an Ebay store which claims it can get most any LC color: http://stores.ebay.com/Quality-Housewares. Good luck!

Ger..the damn stuff is SO HEAVY do you really want it? I have to have D lift most of my big pieces for me.

But if you really want it let me know..we have an outlet here and the price is about 1/4 of what you pay even in France and I can ship it to you. Or maybe I can just fly it in for a visit with you@

I also should have said ..there is nothing better for braising ..Even when I am even older and grayer, if I'm still coking , I'll even hire someone to lift it for me!

Hey Cigalechanta why are you going to Orlando? There is a Le Crueset store in Wrentham. I have every size of Le Crueset round dutch oven up to 13 qt and I don't know what I would do without them. Just a word of caution though. I sent one that I don't use to my nephew in DC and UPS broke it. Yes, I know but it is true. So my advice is to insure it which I didn't. Also for Ger, I always regret that which I didn't buy (that copper confiture pan at Dehillerin when the exchange was in our favor).

Traviata is coming over tomorrow for the Le Creuset. I don't use it and she wants it. Happy to send it on to a new home.

Hi Baz: here is the info on Dot. I had a friend who brought me back a beautiful old pie server from one of the grand hotels in Paris, it's beautiful and funky at the same time. Supposedly, they also have old linens with the names on it, barware, silverware etc. I was told to not miss the downstairs area.
When will you be there, I'm in Paris the 12th to the 20th.

My husband bought me the blue (I'll call it frying pan) for Christmas. It's beautiful; and yes, I can hardly lift it. I think he got it locally, but the Chef's Catalog carries them.

Did someone say Scarlett is leaving Portland?

Faux - what a lovely, generous gesture giving away your collection of Le Crueset.

I am going out this weekend and purchasing one. Every now and then we have to treat ourselves to something special.

AGM,

Le Creuset in Wrentham is VERY expensive compared to buying it in Europe.

I love my frying pan that I bought for 30 pounds in England that they are charging over $100 in the outlets at Wrentham - I live 2 junctions north on 495 from Wrentham Outlets so I know the store you mean. Perhaps you, Mimi, Nikki in Ma and myself should have a TGT in Ruby Tuesdays

Buffalo burger anyone?

Hi O'Reilly,

I love Le Creuset for casseroles and frying pans, but the wok is SO heavy it really doesn't work for me - I can lift it with one hand but it requires two hands to tilt it to get the stir-fry onto the plate. So then there's no hand left over to use a spatula to serve out separate portions / scrape out the last bits of food.

So I'd really recommend trying out lifting one in a cookery store before you buy one.

Norween, maybe that is because other posters did what I did and followed Ger's lead. I should know that I always spell it wrong because Google always corrects me. I will try to be more careful.

Alya, The Le Creuset outlet stores have lower prices than their regular stores but they are still expensive. What they do have that can be at a very good price are seconds. I have many of those and have yet to identify what made it a second. Also they do have sales- I recently purchased a 2 1/4 qt saucier pan which is regularly priced at $170, was listed at the outlet store in Clinton, CT for $114 and with a 20% off sale took it home for $91. Not cheap by any means but for Le Creuset it was a very good price.

and Alya, I am up for a get together. All the people I have met through Fodors have been wonderful!

cigalechanta, you know you have an open invitation to come see my kitchen!

Susanna,
Thank you so much for the information. It sounds even more alluring, and a definite must for me. My old friend who now lives in Switzerland is meeting me in Paris for a couple of days, and she is mad for old hotel silver, so we will strike for sure!
I am going to be there from March 27 through April 3rd, staying in an apartment in the 5th. I am plotting packing an extra foldable suitcase in my wheelie bag, and filling the wheelie bag with all my heavy purchases.
Maybe you could post here after you get back about the store and tell us about it.
Here is a great store if you like a more rustic French look:

I bought some pottery I love there years ago, but from the website I see it has not changed at all. Well worth a vist, right near Rue Mouffetard.
Happy traveling
Baz
