Buying Le Crueset in Paris

Hello there:

I am in Paris and want to check out the price for the wok (can get it on-line for !198 plus shipping). Which store has the best price/selection - BVM or Printemps. Any other you suggest?

Regards Ger

Just go to Marshalls or TJMAXX here in the states.

I'm thinking you might get better prices at some of the restaurant supply stores:

A. Simon: 36 rue Etienne Marcel, 2ème

Casa, 92, rue Saint-Lazare, 9ème

De Choses et D'Autres, 2 rue Gounod, 17ème

Verrerie de la Bastille, 62, rue de la Roquette, 11ème

Bonne chance!

I would have suggested that, Stevem but Ger doesn't live in the USA.

steviegene Jan 19th, 2007 01:27 PM

oops.

Thanks St. Cirq :)

Yes Steve, I live in Victoria BC. We have already tried to find it but its not available in our area yet - the Kiwi colour is new. My husband has tried to find it

Is the wok as heavy as the rest of their line? Was just thinking about how much weight you may add to your suitcase, or what shipping charges would be from Paris? I still have one small pot left. I got rid of mine years ago because it was just too heavy. I notice a lot of food network cooks use it and the colors are gorgous. Good luck on your hunt.

Yes Creflors, they weigh a ton and I will have to consider that. I can check 3 pieces of luggage, so I will be OK but may have to buy an extra bag which might erase any cost savings.

We have the full set and I picked many of the pots up in Paris when the exchange rate was favourable and the prices in Canada very high. Recently, it hasn't been worth it.

Ger, do you know about Caplan Duval in Montreal? They have good prices and frequent sales on LC.

Wok at Caplan Duval is $160. USD with free shipping. I am also curious as to the prices in Paris.

HI St. Cirq: I love to shop at restaurant supply houses, can you tell me any more about the ones that you mentioned...open to the public (obviously)great selection and prices, quality, etc. I also have on my list to go to a place called Dot, in the Marais, which I hear has great old hotel dishes etc. I'll be there this March!

I would suggest buying a monogrammed Goyard tote whilst in Paris. They are all the rage in NYC right now. I like blue the best.

But I don't think it's strong enough to hold Gers Le Cruests.

I agree with the person who mentioned the weight of what you want to buy. You might not be able to carry it in hand luggage because Le Crueset is so heavy someone might think it is a weapon.

I am perfectly serious.

And, if you are ever in the Washington, DC, area, stop by my house and I will give all of mine to you. I haven't used it in years because it is too heavy. Of course, mine is in every which color because I bought most of it when pieces went on sale when they changed the color. Chartreuse, brown and royal blue is what I have.

Faux,

I live in the DC area...maybe one day I will surprise you and stop by to pick it up...I love my few pieces and though they are very heavy, they also last forever.

cigalechanta Jan 19th, 2007 04:16 PM

Lucky you, faux, they are so expensive!

FauxSteMarie Jan 19th, 2007 04:17 PM

I bought them a very long time ago.

cigalechanta Jan 19th, 2007 04:18 PM

Lol, I meant Traviata was lucky to get Faux's Cruesets.

FauxSteMarie Jan 19th, 2007 04:19 PM

Traviata, come on over. You can have them. Really. I am getting ready to sell my house and downsize. I need to get rid of stuff and if you think I am selling and shipping Le Creuset on ebay, I'm not. The postage would be a killer.

I have a lot of Royal Worcester Evesham to dump as well.

Forgot to post my email for Traviata: [email protected]. Just email and come and get 'em.
