robjame, I enjoyed the article and am now inspired to wear the scarf I brought home from France while I listen to Michel Thomas French language lessons on my iPod during my morning walk!

Interesting piece, Rob.

"The word 'schlub' is not translatable in French."

Love that line.

Hello to some of my favourite Fodorites - moolyn, ira, Anselm, caroline
The weather is quite warm in Dordogne, the food is excellent, and the wine... well, of course, the wine is flowing.
Prices (we think) are cheaper... whether it is the time of year, the location in France or the reaction to the US economy (supply & demand).
About fashion - Sandra and I remarked about everyone in Paris is wearing jeans. We will have to reconsider that long accepted advice about Parisians not wearing jeans. But they do look "pulled together" in a total wardrobe sense... and shoes are still important and stylish.
I have been derelict in my posting but am eating to get some pictures and review material. The foie gras is wonderful!
Have you ever had a tournedo of foie gras wrapped inside a magret (duck filet)? That is dinner in tonight. Some sardalaise potatoes, little frisee salad with walnut oil dressing, cabecou fromage course, and a little pomme tarte thing I picked up at the market today. A bottle of Cahors 2000 will be decanted.
I have a wonderful 1991 Armagnac that cost only E25 again at the market to marinate (and sip with) the mara de bois strawberries before they are placed on one of those meringues you find in every patisserie. We will eat on our litle patio and watch the sun set.
Wish you were here.

Hello Rob - how kind ! It sounds wonderful and my mouth is watering over your duck & foie gras combo - will you just lightly sear the foir gras ? I wish I were there too ! Instead I'm in the office in chilly but admittedly sunny Edinburgh, looking forward to sausages for dinner - and an 8am meeting tomorrow Have a glass of Cahors for me !

Now, as soon as I decide what beer to serve with my scrambled eggs, I'll post my lunch menu!

robjae, have you tried the pécharmant Bergerac red yet. A wonderful wine we discovered there. I think you've made us all hungry.

"Wish you were here."

Next October, robjame, in the sunny little village of Saignon. We'll be within "walking home slightly impaired" distance of each other. Margriet is already starting to dream of the cooking, and then there's the restaurants!

Looking forward to future installments of the blog. By the way, I sent my daughter the link to your blog and she wrote back, "I know why you like this man, Dad: he gets to the airport three hours early and takes pictures of the green street cleaning guys in Paris."

Safe travels.
