Busiest airports in the world?
I thought I've seen a discussion on this before -- I'm looking to see how LAX ranks on a global scale in terms of passenger and cargo loads in the mid 80's to early 1990s.
I can find U.S. stats from the Bureau of Transportation (in 1990, LAX is 2nd behind JFK) but I'm having trouble finding comparisons with say LHR, CDG or Hong Kong, etc. Can anyone point me to a source?

You know, the internet is an amazing thing. I opened my browser, went to Yahoo and typed in "World's Busiest Airports"....

fishee, two ideas that might help:
The International Air Transport Association probably has some stats going back that far. I didn't see anything on their web site, but they do have a "contact us" link. Wouldn't hurt to ask the question:
www.iata.org/index.htm
The other idea (and it may be far fetched) is to enquire of <i>The Economist</i>. Their researchers seem to unearth the most obscure statistics imaginable. I have no idea whether they would help, but they might be able to point you to some old back issue. (I suspect, though, that it might not be free.) They, too, have a "contact us" feature:
www.economist.com/index.html
