Bus to Delphi questions

My husband and I will be arriving in Athens from a ferry from Naxos at 3:00 on tuesday sept 14. My husband feels more comfortable taking a bus to Delphi. How much time should I allow to get from where we get off the ferry to where I take the bus ?

I read that there are 6 trips /day from Athens, but can't figure out the times?

Should I reserve the bus in advance or not.? We do plan to spend the night and then
return to Athens the following day.

thank you

Delphi is a 3 hour journey so you won't be able to see it but if you stay overnight there you can see it in the morning.

I hope you aren't carrying too much luggage because if you are using buses and metro, it is a busy schedule. You first need to get to KTEL B station in Athens. If you get into Piraeus at 3pm you would need to make it to KTEL station B for 5:30 departure arriving in Delphi 8:30pm.

Considering you have to be at the station at 5:30 and Terminal B is difficult to find unless you've been there before, I suggest you take a taxi from Piraeus.

If you want to take the bus from Piraeus and there still is an 8pm departure to Delphi(may not be anymore), take the 040 bus to Syntagma stop take bus 024 from there(across from the Garden) , and ask the driver to let you off close to KTEL B station and when you get off turn right on Yiousou and walk towards the station. Or from Piraeus take Metro to Omonia and walk to Panepitimou street and catch bus 024.

Having done this, I would second the recommendation to get to Delphi and stay there overnight, as we should have done. The heat is unbelievable during the middle of the day there (probably in Sept too- we were there last June)and I scored the last seat on the last bus back to Athens..

Thank you for your responses. We do plan on spending the night. I would love a suggestion for a hotel

Do you think that we should check in to a hotel in Athens for a night and then leave the next morning with a car? Then, we would spend the night in Delphi and then have 2 more nights in Athens before a flight back to the US. I was just trying to avoid changing hotels so often.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you are going to drive, drive to Galixidi and spend a couple of nights there. You can easily reach Delphi from there on a day visit and you have your wish of not staying in Athens that you posted previously.
