Bus or Train to Salamanca

Has anyone taken the bus/coach or train from Madrid to Salamanca? Websites seem to recommend the bus/coach. Why? Is it cheaper, faster, safer or more convenient than the train? The renfe website I looked at only seemed to list 2nd class tickets for the train. Is there no 1st class?

Kate,

The bus company which operates the route is Auto Res. Check their web site (spanish only) for schedules and prices ("rutas/horarios" section):

www.auto-res.net

Hope this helps,
Andre

kate,
I take the Auto Res bus, very comfortable, perfectly safe, extremely economical. Takes 2 1/2 hr. Make sure to get the servicio express. Departures hourly.

What Maribel said. Bus is slightly cheaper, faster and more convenient than train. Both are safe. The train only has second class b/c it is a regional train; thus it is one-class service and makes several stops.
