Bus or Train from Viana do Costelo to Santiago de Compostella

Can anyone point me in the right direction on information on a bus or train from Viana do Costelo to Santiago de Compostela? Is the border crossing from Spain to Portugal a big ordeal?

It appears that Internorte has a bus from Viana do Castelo that departs at 17:45 pm and arrives in Santiago at 21:15. www.internorte.pt

Just crossed the border this summer between Portugal and Galicia this summer. Nothing at all, nothing. We went to Portugal for lunch.

Both are Shengen countries so there is no noticeable border other than the river. No different from going from New York to New Jersey.

I believe departures are Portugal time - add an hour for Spain time. There's one Saturdays at 10:15 AM that you may prefer: It gets to Santiago around 13:00 (lunch time). I believe there's also a Spanish Bus Company that does that route (ALSA?)

This is what TA has to say on the subject:

There is no border as such just cross the river bridge but by road you have the added extra of seeing signs.
Along the road there are no buildings only a lay-by which I have only seen being used when the euoprean football cup (soccer) was being held.

glynner79,
Now that www.alsa.es is working for me today, I've checked and yes, there is ONE daily bus from Viana do Castelo to Santiago de Compostela. It departs Viana at 10:45 and arrives in Santiago at 14:15, with stops in Vigo and Pontevedra. (departure time is Portuguese time) Ticket costs 29 euros.

The Internorte bus I gave you above at 17:45 isn't daily; it runs Mon.-Thurs., I believe, with intermediate stops at Vigo and Pontevedra.

And ditto to all the above about crossing the border. The bus just drives over the Eiffel designed bridge from Valença do Minho over to the Spanish border town of Tui.
