Starting to plan a trip for May/June and we are considering including the Burgundy region.
I don't have a grasp on the region yet and am hoping to get some suggested itinerary.
We will be renting a car and like to stay at small hotels or B &Bs. From here we will be heading to the Dordogne region but haven't decided on a route yet.
We would appreciate any suggestions .

Visited Burgundy twice in the last few years. I believe that the Beaujoulais region in southern Burgundy is extremely pretty with low rolling hills and pleasant small towns like Fleurie and Saint Amour. I've stayed at Les Maritonnes in Romance Thorins and found it to be delightful.
Beaune in the heart of the region is also a great tourist town to visit for a few days.

Le Cep is a small hotel in Beaune frequently recommended on this site by me and others. Do a search on this board using the keywords 'Beaune' and 'Dijon' as well as 'Burgundy' and you will find lots of advice from past posters.

My other major recommendation would be to stay off the expressway and travel the secondary routes...buy a one-inch map (or metric equivalent) and follow the secondary and tertiary routes that wind through the historic vineyards.

We stayed in September 2002 at the Castel de Tres Girard in Morey-Saint-Denis (Gevrey-Chambertin) and it was lovely. It is an old coaching inn right amongst the vineyards with a wine press on the premises - grapes were being brought into the yard and unloaded into the crusher right under our window ! We had a lovely big country-style room and the best meal of the entire holiday, and it was very reasonable. We visited Burgundy two years ago and used Beaune as a base for three days. An absolutely charming little town, with a great market on Saturdays. We stayed at Hotel le Cep, which is just inside the town walls. Check out the www.slh.com (Small Luxury Hotels) web site and do a search on the hotel or Beaune to get more details.

Les Maritonnes is quite nice--as long as the hotel has installed a/c since our stay. We styed there during a major heat wave about ten years ago, and all we could do was soak in the pool until the sun went down--the room was like an oven.
