Jahoulih and S. Fowler,

Mortimer's source for SWMBO is Ayesha, Quenn of Kor from H. Rider Haggard's novel SHE.

Maybe Rex is really Dr. Abate.

Michele

So Rex poses as "bashful" or others to glean free advice about his travels and destinations, then posts as the omnipotent Rex, tour guide and information source extraordinaire, and suggests that you let him answer all your travel questions AND plan and lead your trips for you.

Now where was that post about selling our own information back to us?

If you people don't realize how pathetic you all are, staying up all hours of the night fighting over someone who is not EVEN IN THE COUNTRY, you all have issues that you need to rectify ASAP.

The sick thing is, you're all attacking this Rex guy, and since he's not responding, you're attacking each other instead. This would make sense except that for the most part, YOU ARE AGREEING WITH ONE ANOTHER. None of you are contributing anything worthwhile, and those of you who are preaching "ignore him and he'll go away" can't help your sick little selves from springing this inane topic back to the top again and again. I don't know what's more sick--the fact that you hate each other so much and get off on seeing your mindlessness posted, or that YOU ACTUALLY KNOW EACH OTHER. It's downright creepy.

Log off, have some wine, have sex-- just LIVE a REAL LIFE. THIS IS NOT REAL!!!

This forum is the internet version of the Jerry Springer show: low class morons who can't control themselves, looking for someone to bark at, and looking for a lot of attention. The world is laughing at you...ALL OF YOU (even the self-righteous "It's not me" ones).

And before you even say it: My real name and e-mail address are not to be wasted on you. Like I need 100 dolts flooding my inbox with pissy little comments. GO OUTSIDE AND SEE THE SUN.

Everyone's quite crazy, except you and me, and even you are quite nutty, since you took the time to post this long tirade. Conclusion: We should ALL get outside and see the sun and leave this sad little thread to fade out into oblivion.

Actually, Me2, it took me no time at all. I'm quite witty. And I assure you, the only reason I am posting on this silly topic is that I am waiting for my pedicure to dry and needed to kill time. Enjoy the outdoors!

Thank you, Michele!

Now let me post my favorite poem about Rider Haggard (probably the only poem about Rider Haggard!), which seems oddly appropriate to this thread.

To R.K.

by J.K. Sthephen

"As long as I dwell on some stupendous
And tremendous (Heaven defend us!)
Monstr'-inform'-ingens-horrendous
Demoniaco-seraphic
Penman's latest piece of graphic."
--Browning

Will there never come a season
Which shall rid us from the curse
Of a prose which knows no reason
And an unmelodious verse:
When the world shall cease to wonder
At the genius of an Ass,
And a boy's eccentric blunder
Shall not bring success to pass:

When mankind shall be delivered
From the clash of magazines,
And the inkstand shall be shivered
Into countless smithereens:
When there stands a muzzled stripling,
Mute, beside a muzzled bore:
When the Rudyards cease from Kipling
And the Haggards Ride no more.
For one thing, Rex created this topic for self promotion and he IS responding. Scroll back up and read it again. The only reason he isn't responding every two minutes, as usual, is because, as we all know by now, he's been in Italy. Not that it has stopped him from parking himself at an Italian internet cafes and logging on here nearly every day.

Only Trans-Atlantic air flight seems to keep him away, so enjoy tonight and tomorrow here before he returns and starts the vitriol over all again.

Need a life, try practicing what you preach.

I'm quite new to this site and was very open-minded about Rex until.... he 'tried' to translate some Flemish. Will he being going to language school while he's on 'vacation'?

P.S. I'm never replying to a Rex thread again - I've come to the conclusion they are best ignored and I've just responded to this to get it out of my system rather than go for therapy.

So many interesting responses elicited to this simple message from me. Had to break up my reply into more than one message.

=======
Part 1
=======

To funny (jody?)

I assume that this was the question, and my reply that <<you were very "open-minded about me" until...>>

===================================

Author: jody ([email protected])
Date: 4/30/2001, 10:39 pm ET

Message: Does any one here speak or read Flemish( I think. Not that hard to find his e-mail address.

Best wishes,

Rex

================================

I'm sorry this caused you to change your "open-minded" perspective "about me".

And I'm afraid I don't know why it caused a change.

continued....
Part 2

=============

To Lesley:

I can't say that I have much of an answer to your specific question. It is not that hard to find parking in or around Assisi. My father-in-law could not walk any significant distance in/around the hilly terrain of Assisi, so I couldn't tell you anything about "off-road" hiking in the area.

I'm not sure what you mean by "walking tours" - - do you mean a guide? or simply some walking routes?

If you want a guide, I suggest you direct your question(s) to Anne Robichaud - - highly regarded and with many positive comments here on this board. You can find her at www.annesitaly.com and apparently she is prone to proposing activities, based on specific requests.

We DID seek outtwo nearby "attractions" - - one of which could make for an interesting hike of less than 8 miles - - the Eremo delle Carceri (Hermitage of St Francis) - - albeit perhaps all by road. The other site we had thought we might go see is the Abbey of San Benedetto, but I can tell you that it is closed to the public (now? always was?). There is also something about Father Damian on Monte Subasio (above Assisi), but we did not go check that out.

There is not very much to see at the "Eremo" - - a series of ever-smaller prayer chambers, leading to the "actual" <<grotto>> of St. Francis - - about three times the size of a telephone booth. It was drizzly overcast when we went there Monday - - we did get the notion that it would have been a tremendous view of the countryside below - - if it had been clear.

To mj, Maira, joe (papajohn) - - I appreciate your warm greetings, and will post more details about Assisi, including the Basilica (lower) where we went to Mass (quite an incredible experience).

And to xxx - - and it sounds like you are someone who has corresponded with me a lot - - I am dumbfounded by your remarks of 5/09/2001 at 9:54 pm - - are you criticizing me for accessing the internet (and this board) while I was traveling? or not taking the necessary time while I was there to prepare a detailed trip report online? Do you really think that I would or could "drag" you (or anyone) to internet cafes against your will while traveling? Ever heard of the concept of free time? Am I a "nemesis" because I choose to spend 15 minutes every few days or so doing something I like? Is coming to this board somehow "sick" - - in a way that writing postcards is not?

On another thread I'll address the WRONG conclusions reached about threads posted by someone (not me) named "bashful", as well as the three threads I posted from the perspective of my father-in-law, intended to get opinions about this (just completed) trip.

It's nice to be home, just as it was nice to be there.

Happy Mother's Day everyone...

Rex
Oh goodie, we just can't wait to see all those headers from you posing as Fodor's editors again Rex! Not to mention the endless self-promotion, marytrdom, and 24 hour a day vigils at this site. The Nemesis returneth.

Why would someone post a message like the one listed here for 8:05 am? Based on the handle "bring it on" - - someone who likes to go around picking fights, I guess.

I'm as puzzled as can be.

But Happy Mother's Day, anyway.

Best wishes,

Rex
Welcome back, Rex. I am looking forward to my Italy trip in July - I got great suggestions from you over the past few months. It is such a waste of time and energy to keep up this disagreement. We learn from our mistakes - no one on this earth is perfect. It is time for us to forgive and forget.

Best Wishes and Happy Mother's Day to you, also!

Mari

Ed, "[email protected]" may be unknown to msn.com, but if you do a search for "Mari" on this forum, you'll find a number of posts by "[email protected]"; I see no reason to think they're not by someone called Mari.

Indeed that's so, jahoulih.

On the other hand, has the "real" mari made a posting in the last 10 days?

In any event, as long as Fodors places no controls on the use of ids, we'll never know if any post, including posts supposedly from the editors, are really from whom they say they are.

This post is certainly from "me", but then again who is "me"?

Golly gee willickers Ed, I don't know! It's all just as puzzling as can be! I TRY to act innocent and go on the offensive every time that pesky forgery issue reappears, but oh my goodness me, how much longer can I refuse to acknowledge any mention of it? I try to show that I'M the victim here, but shucks, it can be difficult when I'm caught doing the things that I lecture and threaten others about. I'm just scratching my lil ole haid over the mystery of it all! But hey, it's better than admitting anything or changing my ways, right? I'll play the self-righteous martyr no matter what I do, so I'll always win, right?

Best wishes!
