Bunratty Lodge or Headley Court

If you had to choose, which B&B do those of you who've been like best - Bunratty Lodge or Headley Court. Or do you have another preference near Shannon. I'd like to stay our first and last night near the airport if possible. Also, these look close enough to walk to area sites - is that possible?

Hi Annabelle:

I always forget the family relationship between the two ... sisters in law or something like that. I've never stayed at Headly but both of them have an excellent reputation. I've stayed at Bunratty Lodge twice and it's very nice. They say it's about 1.5 miles from the village. I never walked it.

There are other choices, such as Rocklands B&B in Mary Slattery's home just up the road. She or her daughter will gladly pick you up at Fitzgerald Hotel or Bunratty Castle and deliver you as with us at Durty Nellies. Very hospitable several years ago.
Hope these work:

Annabellee, we enjoyed the Bunratty Lodge in July 2006. Not quite close enough to walk but a very easy drive to get to Bunratty castle & folk park.

Bunratty Lodge was the first place we stayed when we got off the plane. Let me tell you, it sure sets a high standard for how amazingly CLEAN the Irish standard is for a good b&b. Here in the USA I find a lot of our "good" b&bs are always dusty. Bunratty Lodge was very clean and tidy!

Mary serves a nice breakfast. The price is a good value.

I have stayed at both and they are both excellent. Toss a coin! BTW, Kathleen Browne of Headley Court is the daughter-in-law of Mary Browne at Bunratty Lodge. Just wanted to set the relationship straight.

If you want to be within walking distance of the castle, etc. try the Courtyard Guesthouse, Bunratty Manor Hotel or Bunratty Castle Hotel. There is currently construction ongoing at Bunratty Manor Hotel.
