BUDGET B&Bs IN AMSTERDAM ?!

Hi!

We'll be in the Netherlands for 10 days in August. We're a couple with our 17 year old son. We are all non-smokers. We plan to stay at a"Bed and Breakfasts" guesthouse. A twin bed and an additional bed for our son would do. We just need a room to rest and sleep after travelling the whole day around. Breakfast is not necessary. We can arrange our breakfast ourselves before we leave in the morning.
Any information about places to stay would be very much appreciated.

Well you better specify no-smoking in this smokers paradise. I booked a B&B (30 euro/day, single) and though the room wasn't smoking the dining room adjoining it was and the old Dutch gent who sat watching TV whilst his baggy-eyed wife served breakfast was puffing away on his hand-rolled shag tobacco - extremely strong and the wife smoked it too - it was a pall of smoke. I booked thru B&B Holland but not sure if that group is still around as this was 2003. Last year i stayed in San Luchesio, a monastery that just started to rent out rooms as the number of friars declined. The austere room was about 35 euros, single, with a nice breakfast in a nice breakfast room - no smoking in the whole building. I booked this thru the Amsterdam VVV tourist office (0299-689144) don't dial first 0 from outside country, or 20 2018800. San Luchesio is in a neat old building in a neat part of town near the southern end of Vondel Park - a posh part of town well away from all the sleaze in the town center.

A canal house hotel, not a B&B per se, but Hotel Brouwer is non-smoking.

Funny PalQ, as mentioned above the hotel manager at the place I stayed in A'dam smoked while he was working too.

I had a top floor small single room with shared toilet for 57 euro at Hotel Kap. Not quite as cheap as you are looking for, but close.

PalQ, that's a good tip:

http://www.sanluchesio.nl/

The web site seems to be Dutch-only, but it's easy enough to figure out, and the prices look great.
