Budapest-Vienna-Prague in 10 days
Hi Guys,
Happy new year
I want to check if it's possible to cover Budapest/Vienna/Prague in 10 days. We are traveling there for the first time this March. There's a lot to see in all these cities and we're also planning for day trip to Bratislava as well (i guess by riverboat from Vienna). From our forum reading, it looks like Vienna has lot more to offer such as opera and museums, so can we spend most time there?
I would also like to get your opinion on places to visit in these cities (3 days per place, maybe 4 for Vienna). We are just planning to hop on and see all those cultural architectures and visit to downtowns, markets and parks. We already have general idea of public transport and accommodation, just not very sure about the itinerary
Thanks a lot for your kind assistance

Depends on what you want to see and do! For me, that would be WAY too fast.... Logistically, you can do it. Whether you can do it in a way that would be rewarding to you is something only you can decide. Good luck!

Is this "10 days" on the ground, not counting the day of arrival or the day of departure?
Possible? Sure. Desirable? Probably not.
Relocating costs you a half-day or more each time, door-to-door.
I suggest you watch plenty of travel DVDs and videos (YouTube of course, and others), raid your local library's travel section, and decide between Prague and Budapest, then drop one or the other. We can't make this decision for you.
But if all that research shows you that the list of targets that you consider worthwhile in each city is short enough that you can hit them all and still have days left over to do all three, then more power to you.
But you're right when you say "There's a lot to see in all these cities", so - Vienna (with Bratislava) and which of the other two?

I visited those three cities in ten days (nine nights) on a trip some years ago, so I assume you can too. I didn't stop in Bratislava, though. I flew into Prague (4 nights) trained to Vienna (2 nights), trained to Budapest (3 nights) and then flew out. A few years later, I came back to Prague for a few more nights on a separate trip.
I didn't have a fixed plan when I arrived in Prague - I could have spent 2 nights or the entire time there. But I loved Prague - touristy, but very charming, which is why I stayed four nights and returned again a few years later (even though the list of things to see there isn't very long). Vienna I didn't care for as much - a very pleasant place, but for me at least it lacked the charm of Prague, and I had little interest in musical performances or the museums there. Budapest was intriguing but much larger than Prague and much harder to navigate - it lacked the charm and the "compactness" that made Prague such a charming place to visit. I wouldn't mind going back to both Budapest and Vienna someday (especially Budapest), but so far, I haven't.
I'd look at each city and what interests you there and base the amount of time you stay there partly based on that. Your interests are probably not exactly the same as mine.

Hi All, thanks a ton for your response.
10 days without including the flights (Arrive on 19th and Leaving on 31st). Our previous plan was even more ridiculous (Budapest-Vianna-Prague-Munich-Zurich-Milan-Pisa / mainly because we wanted to take a ride on the Bernina Express). But almost every reply in every forum advised to enjoy the Europe's charm and cover an area instead of hustling and bustling around many cities, so we have cut down to these 3 cities.
At the moment we haven't booked any accommodation so far except the first night in Budapest, so our itinerary is still very flexible

Yeah, that would have been the business trip from hell...
If you really want to do all three, take a late train from one to the next, so that you don't waste precious energy - if you get there in time to check into a hotel and crash, at least you didn't waste a day.
