Budapest Spas-Help

Any recommendations on spas in Budapest. Some of the thermal spas that Fodors recommends state that they are for older people with ailments, not quite what I am looking for. Also are they all nude, female only? I need the low-down.

Thanks

Most of the spas -- thermal baths -- do offer treatment for people with ailments, but that is not all they are used for. Some are single sex, some have alternate days for the sexes, and somewhat fewer, I believe, accommodate both sexes at the same time. The baths at the Gellert hotel accommodate both sexes at the same time, but mostly in separate pools where men might wear a loin cloth and women nothing (or perhaps something similar to a loin cloth, but not a full cover-up). Those pools where both sexes may be together require a bathing suit, which is a rarely-seen option in the single-sex pools.

We had a great time at the Gellert, and really enjoyed the pools, at which we certainly did wear swimsuite!

Check out www.danubiusgroup.com to see pictures of the beautiful pools.

We stayed at the Gellert this fall and did partake of the spa. The women's side has two pools that differ in temp. by 10 degrees. Clothing is optional but I would say 75 percent of the bathers had on suits. I assume the men's side is similar. Of course the coed pools (there is an indoor and outdoor pool) was mandatory clothing.

The spas are located in lovely classic Turkish tiled pool rooms. They didn't appear to cater to older or infirmed people. They are open to the public but entrance is without cost if you stay at the hotel. We enjoyed our stay.

The Thermal Hotel Margitziget on the island has a wonderful spa. While there are some treatments aimed at people with ailments, there are others that are just for general well-being. There are fitness clases, yoga and an assortment of active things to do there.
The thermal pools were co-ed and people were clothed.
