Budapest Oct. 23 holiday

We are going to Budapest for the first time October 22 for a few days. I understand that Oct 23 is a major holiday and it may carry over to the 24. Does anyone know if everything is closed down those 2 days? Is it even worth the trip those days? Also anyone know anything about Residence Izabella? Thanks

It's not really a holiday. It's the anniversary of the outbreak of the 1956 revolution. As such, it is a significant date in the minds of Hungarians. It might be good to read a little about it, so that you understand its significance, and learn some of the locations where things happened. Some of those locations are in places that a tourist might visit.

Yes, it is worth going; yes, it is worth learning a little about the 1956 revolution.

There were anti-government riots in Budapest on that date in 2006. That was a one-off, sparked by a political scandal.

How was the weather in October? We are planning a trip in October, 2009. My wife is concerned about it being too cool.

The weather in October is like the weather in Chicago or New York. It can be warm and it can be cool, too...dressing in layers will be fine.

The Residence is in a great area nd I think it would be lovely to stay in that area as a tourist.
