Budapest: Inexpensive Lodgings??

Hi,
My husband and I will be traveling to Budapest during the first week of June. We would appreciate any recommendations for low-budget lodging (1 to 2 stars). Places of local character and charm are preferred, though we are open to suggestions (even good hostels). Thanks in advance!
ficklenomads

Two weeks ago, I returned from Budapest and spent 9 pleasant nights at the Kalmar B&B on Gellert Hill, directly behind the Gellert Hotel. You can do a search here at Fodors for my comments. You can contact the booking agent Anita Kalman at [email protected] and the website is www.budapesthotels.com -- not sure what your budget is, but the Kalmar B&B is a 2 star, actually that's the highest rating a B&B can get in Budapest. I highly recommend staying there.

Kalmar B&B is an excellent choice. Located short walk to Gellert Hotel and Bath. Baths must be on your to-do list. Kalmar has superb breakfasts and ideally located for view and convenience to transportation - buy Budapest Card for free travel and discounts at stores, etc. Best to use cash in US $'s since Hungary does not use Euro. Kalmar reservation through budapesthotels.com. Will provide airport pickup (pay cash much cheaper). Strongly suggest if travel to - from Vienna - Budapest to ride the Hydrofoil on the Danube.
Hi,
Although we haven't been there yet, we go in May, I just booked a one bedroom, Living room, Kitchen and bathroom apt. in Budapest for a week. I think the price is very reasonable at $300 US for the week. It is near Oktagon Square. The lady has a very nice web site that has photos and other information about the Apt. Contact her at: [email protected] and tell her I referred you. She will send the link for the photos. Good luck and let me know if you book. She is very quick to respond to inquiries.
