Brutal Crack Down on Peaceful Environmental Protest

Here are some last minute details :
There is heavy rain in Ankara, yet police still using water cannon to disperse crowds which are already wet as wet can be !!! -
They also use pepper gas which has hit many bus passengers, taxis and private vehicles on the streets as well.
Tonight is supposed to be a sunni moslem holy night, the night Mohammed climbed the mountain.
The Besiktas football supporters core , the Charshi Group, about 2,000 strong are walking to Taksim to distribute halwa. All day special holy day (Kandil) pretzel like simits were distributed free to protesters.
There will also be a special delegation of protesters paying a visit of thanks to the imam of Dolmabahce mosque who allowed the mosque to be used as a first aid station Sunday night when there was a very brutal police attack in the area, despite being gassed himself.
When large numbers of lawyers protested today in front of the new huge palace of justice in Istanbul all court clerks and other employees gathered at windows to wave, cheer and give support.
The Prime Minister should be arriving back from his North African visit very soon not having been able to meet anyone significant in Algeria, Tunis and Morocco. He will be fuming mad and will be lashing at everyone. He has been rebuffed badly in North Africa by all the leaders despite being welcomed as a guest of honor in the United States just last month.
- Taksim platform gave their requests to the vice prime minister :
1. keep Taksim Park as a park open to the public
2. cease the police attacks on protesters
3. ban all use of pepper gas or any other gas
4. listen to the public and enter into dialogue with their representatives for more democratic governance.
5. release all those arrested during the protests.
6. stop all legal proceedings against the protesters.
7. Remove all those responsible for police brutality from office.

checking back, I cannot see much difference in quality between the Cannon Powershot S230 and The Pentax DSLR with the Sigma 18-250 lens.
One more news : The Nobel winner Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk finally decided to pitch in with a lame remark saying he does not approve of authoritarianism. "Good for him". although I think he is lying because his father who was my bridge friend who could have been authoritarian had totally deserted him after his divorce from Orhan's mother, to concentrate on his new young wife and young daughter. Hence, he always missed a figure of authority in his childhood and I think he had found it in Prime Minister Erdogan.

King Mohammed IV of Morocco refused to meet the Turkish PM Erdogan yesterday. I strongly believe that it is because all the heads of State he visited before and befriended had terrible luck. Consider, Mobarak of Egypt, Assad of Syria, Berlusconi, Gaddafi of Libya.
If I were Obama, I would have refused to meet him last month, -
Some people thought that it was like Woodstock at Taksim and tried to organize a big concert with some major names. Some groups got wise to it quickly, saying, "all of Turkey and even many parts of the World are showing support for our plight and some people are being arrested and wounded in other cities in Turkey for showing solidarity with us. How can anyone suggest we celebrate here?"
So, just some discussions, possibly impromptu singing and everyone doing their own thing as usual.
Turkish Medical Association released their figures against the censored government ones regarding numbers of injured during the last 8-9 days. All together about 4,500 injured some badly and two dead.
CNN Turkey has been apologizing every day after the third for not paying enough attention to the event originally, but has now been name as part of the pro government :bought media".
The 34 kids, age 14-19 who were arrested yesterday in Izmir for inciting the public against the lawful government on twitter, have been released after the Turkish bar Association intervened in full force.
The current issue is the group of civilians following the police in Izmir a few days ago, wielding bats, sticks with nails, etc. First the Governor said it was a lie, gthen when shown pictures he said that the Chief of Police told him that they were plainclothesmen who had forgotten to put on the vests that all such police are required to wear in such circumstances by regulations.
Now, everyone is waiting for the PM to land tonight, especially with some calls made to his supporters to, "give him a big warm welcome" !!!! Will this mean that Erdogan hopes that bloodthirsty Islamic fanatics will be gathering to eventually attack the protesters?

Eser wants to visit Taksim after dinner tonight after the news that the crowds are growing beyond the 100,000 mark because of the PM calling protesters "marginal groups" and associating them with the terrorists who suicide bombed the American consulate.
I will see if I can take some more photos there.
Lots of popular writers, columnists, actors, artists are already there.
The Jazz group we visited in Pittsfield, Massachussetts last October wrote to me that they will have a briefing session (possibly in their church) of what is happening in Turkey and then give a concert in solidarity with the protesters.
Cheers to Andy, James, Charles, Sue, Dianne, Joe and others who also showed great hospitality to us and became lifelong friends with us.
I will see if I can take some more photos there.

We just came back from a long tour of Taksim square and park. Was extremely crowded with four concerts and lots of chanting and dancing.
It will be some time before I check, select, write captions and post the photos.
