Brussels or Luxembourg?

I've been checking airfares to go see my daughter in the SE corner of the Netherlands and it looks like the fares would be somewhat less (and a bit closer) to fly into either Brussels or Luxembourg. I was thinking of staying a night in whichever one I fly into and look around a bit before heading out in the morning. Which airport is more convenient to the city? I'm wondering if there is a train into town like from Schiphol or if I would need to rely on taxis. If I take a taxi, which city has more within walking distance of it's central train station? I would want a hotel (economy but safe as I'll probably be traveling alone) and things to see. Does Brussels or Luxembourg sound like a better bet for what I'm wanting?

TIA - Nancy

I prefer Luxembourg, heading anywhere close to Maastricht ? Try and stop there if you are in the area.

Ida101 and airport hotel sounds great as I could dump my stuff and go explore. Is there much of interest within walking distance of the central station in Brussels?

SAnParis - My daughter is in Brunssum which is not all that far from Maastricht so well will be making a day trip there. I checked into flying into there, but it was pricey and more time consuming.

Yes, most of the major sites are within walking distance from central station in Brussels: the Grand Place, Mannekin Pis, St. Nicholas Church, Royal palace, and the Grand Sablon, among others.

Thanks LSUvetgirl! I'll look into Brussels a bit more, it sounds like it might be more manageable.

I've spent time in both cities and would prefer Brussels.

I agree that the main sites are all within 25-minute walking distance from the central train station in Brussels.
