Well, it depends. Over the week-end and for the moment, it's quite warm. Saturday was just plain HOT. Yes, AC would have been much appreciated!
But then things could suddenly become much cooler, as the saying goes, if you don't like the weather in Brussels, wait 15 minutes.
If you can get a room in your price range with AC, take it (in the 110 euro price range, can highly recommend the 4 star Sofitel on Ave. de la Toison d'Or). If you can't get AC, ask for a room that gets good ventilation AND afternoon shade. Your room will feel a LOT cooler than a room that gets afternoon sun. Days are long in the summer in Brussels, so if you want something cooler without AC, you really MUST get a room with afternoon shade.
Keep in mind that after a spell of warm weather in Brussels, it's not unusual for a strong thunderstorm to pass by with gusty winds, heavy--but brief--downpours, even hail.

Yes, my husband just called to complain. The AC in both his car and office is refusing to function properly. He can't wait to get back to the apt. and take a long cool shower. But I told him it's hot here in the UK too and I don't have ANY airco, even faulty, to turn to. Oh well, at least I'm not riding the Tube today, I hear it's boiling in there.

The Belgian heat wave now has "official" status!

Hope it's short-lived. The last thing we need is a repeat of 2003

Temps rarely in Brussels get much over 70 degrees, often much under in summer. After ten years of doing bicycle trips thru Belgium i can attest that, despite global warming, air conditioning would definitely not be needed. Central heating - yes! And this is a rainy climate - one year on our bike trips it rained an incredible 35 straight days - never really hard but a constant drizzle with the sun popping out literally only a few times.
Recent years have been a bit warmer but needing air conditioning in Brussels is about like needing sun tan lotion in upper Scandinavia in the middle of winter.

PalQ, as someone who lives in Brussels part time and lived there full time for five years and was back there this week-end, you are just plain wrong. Temps today are more like 90 than 70. Ir has certainly been hot enough the last few days to make an AC hotel room desirable, if not absolutely necessary.
The summer of 2003 was just plain miserable and there were few days when it dropped to 70 at NIGHT...it soared way past that virtually every day by mid morning the entire summer.
Boy, you are really living in the past! When were you last in Brussels during the summer?

Anyway, why did you make such a snide post when those of us who have been in Brussels THIS June said it was hot?
Last summer was nice; the previous two summers were warm, and 2003 was HOT all summer long. So your sarcastic comment simply doesn't fit. What was its point? Are you suggesting that Tulips, Hanl and I are lying to the OP?

Sorry i didn't read the other posts and was giving my experience of ten straight fairly miserable and cool summers - i stand corrected as to your recent experience that global warming or something has warmed up Brussels - the average hi in Brussels for June is 72 - for July 72 - for August 70 - average lows, which come at night are 52 and 54 degrees - hardly a.c. weather.
Sorry you took my reply personally and if i had read the other posts then you could say the nasty things about my intentions that you did - but as i did not read the others what you attribute to me as snide remarks is just not true.
I meant nothing to other posters, of course, since i didn't read them and was not then trying to contradict but giving my decade-long experience from the 1980s not dreaming that Brussels is now so balmy and tropical. I would think in this case all hotels and even Tulips' dwelling would surely have air conditioning so the OP should not worry.
Sorry if i took your attack personally and that you wrongly took my alleged attack personally when it wasn't.

And my remarks did not say anything about doubting that this June is hot - nothing at all so i think you misread my remarks - in no way was i doubting what you say about June (if i had read it even) so i think you're accusing me of something that just isn't so. I would never contradict you especially since you're many valuable inputs always seem so right on to me. Sincerely sorry if you though elsewise.
I've been in Brussels every summer for at least a day since 1971.

TRying to distract from the little spat going on between OPs, this last week has been hot everywhere in europe, including here in Cornwall, which is not somewhere where AC would normally be necessary. Brussels is not exactly on the coast, but is not so far inland either, so it won't have the continental climate of Berlin, [hots are hot, colds are cold] say, or the maritime climate of Cornwall. [wet and warm or wet and cold]. If you find the heat difficult to tolerate normally, being on holiday won't help. So as it is quite possible that Brussels will be hot at this time, you should opt for AC if you will be miserable in hot weather without it. Then you will have the option if you need it.

ARRRRGGHH! I am packing today for my trip to Belgium and Netherlands, and I was looking for weather tips to help me. I checked out all the info I could find about it on this board, and also http://www.weatherreports.com/brussels/averages.html and I am still worrying about what to pack.
It seems that everyone has the same advice, like "if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes."
I am usually a light packer, but I have too much stuff right now, because I am worried about the weather. I tend to be cold. Well, when I am not having a hot flash, anyway.
Back to the 22" to purge at least a third of what is in there. I want room to take home some things!
I hope that the temps are not too warm. I am used to "heat waves" being 95 to 100 degrees. I am not sure if our rooms have air conditioning.
Astria, that is the same time that I will be there.

dsm22; it's still raining, but due to clear up before the weekend, although it won't be as hot as it was earlier this week.
Take a light raincoat; you will probably need it. And if you are going to Holland this week, don't forget to pack something orange to wear, otherwise you will really stand out as a tourist. Streets will be empty, but cafes will be packed with people on Friday 16th at 6 pm and Wednesday 21st at 9 pm, when the Dutch team play in the World Cup.

Thank you Tulip. I will actually be leaving NY June 23rd and arriving in Brussels June 24th. I know that World Cup is huge, but I guess I did not realize how huge until our concert tour has been so effected by it all. I will be in Netherlands the 27 thru the 30th when we head back into Belgium.
I have my light rain coat. I have decided on 3 skirts, 3 pair of trousers, 1 sweater, 3 camis (to layer if I need & I wear them under button down shirts), 2 short sleeve shirts, and 2 three-quarter sleeve shirts, one pashmina. That does not include my concert blouse, and what I will wear on the plane.
I will continue to keep an eye out on the weather. Thank you for the gracious update. If you think of any thing else that would be good ofr me to know, I would certainly appreciate more tips. This will be my first time to travel there. I am beyond excited, and cannot wait to see the sites, and meet and sing with the other choirs and bands.
Thank you.

dsm22; your packing list sounds sensible. Where will you be performing in Belgium and The Netherlands? I live near Antwerp. The World Cup will only be an issue then if the Dutch make it to the quarter final!
As for the weather; today was 15 celsius and raining, two days ago was 30 and sunny.
Good luck with your concert tour!

The only thing that it says on my itinerary is that I will be traveling 56 kms. from Ghent to Izegem and that we will be performing during and following a mass. (sunday 6-25) We then have two Friendship concerts, in Amsterdam. (6-28 & 6-29) Then back to Brugges for the final concert during and after a mass. (7-2)
Doesn't look too far away on the map, but it is not marked in km or miles so I am not sure. If it would be something that you would be interested in, I could get an actual address on Monday.
