BRUGES

We (4 couples, ) have two nights in Brugess after a river cruise in June and were wondering where would be a good hotel to stay that is close to the centre. We are all in our early 60's and would like at least a 3star hotel. Any suggestions, then hope to get a train to Paris, any help there is also appreciated.

We really enjoyed staying at the Hotel Patritius when we were there last summer. We had a nice large room, there was a very pleasant lounge to relax in and also a nice garden behind the hotel where I enjoyed reading a book and soaking up some sun. Breakfast was included and it was very nice with meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, juices, and several types of coffee. They also cooked eggs for us. Very friendly staff too. Not far from the center but quiet.

Dick..evidently after your stay, the hotel decided against any Fodor-folks in the future. However....

Pachet...if you don't mind a very easy 10-15 minute walk through some residential districts to reach the Gross Markt, etc., our "family" lodgings (daughters and their families have stayed there also...and loved it)... Hotel Egmond on it's parklike grounds, in the beautiful Minnewater section which in itself has a dreamlike feel to it (also some restaurants and shops). Their website with pics tells it all.

Bruges is a very small town, and all of the hotels inside it are well placed. Just make sure you don't pick somewhere on the ring road. In Europe 3 star only means what facilities are available, not the quality of the hotel - a hotel with a conference room scores higher than one without.
