If you are only taking one train trip in Britain, you don't need a pass. Just go to Paddington station the day you want to go and buy a return (round-trip) ticket to Oxford. Since it's only an hour trip, it can't cost too much.
For tube/bus travel, buy a 7-day travelcard when you are there (about £16 for Zone 1, £19+ for Zones 1+2). Almost everything you would want to see is in Zone 1 except the zoo and Greenwich.

Hi fuchchi,
There is a Britrail pass, but it is only useful if you will be doing a lot of train travel.
Go to www.railsaver.com to see if you will save money with one.

fuchchi: Your travel agent really doesn't know what she is talking about. Maybe she just wants the small commission earned by selling you a BritRail Pass.
A day return (round trip) ticket London to Oxford will only cost a few £. And a 7-day London transport pass (bought in any tube station in London) for zone 1 is about £16. There is no Britrail Pass that would give you any benefit for the places you want to travel.
