I guess you know it is still possible to buy meat based mincemeat as well as fruit based mincemeat and meat based minced meat. How anyone from out side the language has a hope.

Thought of "toad in the hole" to add to your list

Yes, I generally see mincemeat with nuts in it and I'm allergic. My hosts made it specially for me.

Mincemeat is practically always made from fruit. The English for what Americans call ground meat is mince.

I asked in a different thread whether rissoles were confined to Wales these days and it seems the answer may be yes! They are readily available in any Chippy round here and are similar in appearance (outwardly anyway) to Scotch Eggs. They are spheres of potato and corned beef spiced with thyme, pepper and onions. They are then breadcrumbed. I really missed them when I lived in London.

However, I totally agree with others that whilst they may be plentysome in our fish and chip shops, you would never see them on a menu anywhere else. Mind you, our local chippy here in Bridgend, South Wales, won the Overall prize for UK Best Fish and Chip Shop a couple of years back (and as winners, they weren't allowed to enter the year after).
