Breaking news from cigalechanta

Very best wishes to Mimi and Jerry, and thanks to Underhill for starting the thread.
I am also sensitive to non-travel related themes, especially the political ones that crop up from time to time. That said, I'd rather have them and rely on my own judgement as to whether they're relevant to me instead of having some censor take that choice away from me, of course all things consistent with civility and acceptable language, etc.
But there's no question that these message boards create "community," and I really prefer it to the anonymity of other commercial sites.
A stunning case in point is being revealed over on flyertalk.com, where two posters, one in northern Israel, the other in Beirut, have been giving minute-by-minute updates on their experiences and perceptions for the past couple of days. MSNBC picked it up last night, and that "community" is growing exponentially as people see how "travel-related" and "community" can become fused, with riveting results. Here's the thread for those interested: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=563147
We are all travelers and we are all community and we just need to get comfortable with the idea.
Again, all the best to Mimi and Jerry, and to all of us.

Mimi and her BIL will be meeting with docs today, hopefully getting a good prognosis ... she has yet more pathology reports to wait for ... Good thoughts going their way!!
The man posting on flyertalk.com has such a fantastic sense of humour !! His talk of "Dementia" and the German Shepherd has me LOL!
To maintain a sense of humour in those circumstances just underlines the jarring difference in their lives and ours..

Underhill, in re-reading my post, I am embarrassed to see that it could be read as saying you may have provided inappropriate information. Not at all what I meant. Sorry. Your original post made it very clear you were speaking at their behest. I was trying to say that sharing their story had several positive consequences -- a sense of humanity ensued and you brought some good to someone else.

Mimi, best wishes to you and Jerry. I wondered where you were. I see now that I was in your beloved France when the first post was shared.
(This was our first time staying in the Marais and your February report was very helpful so thank you.) Continued strength to both of you!
Underhill, thank you for sharing this update.

From Mimi'a email I am in awe how strong she is being through this most difficult time. I know all the loving thoughts sent her way have helped she and Jerry considerably. And Underhill's posting for her has been at Mimi's request. Thank you again dear Underhill.

Dear Jerry
I don't know you or your wife (although I love reading her wonderful advice here on Fodor's) but since I read that you are getting the messages posted here, I would like to join in on sending you positive thoughts and energy. I went through it six years ago, and besides the support of my loved ones and friends, it was the outpouring of love and support from people I hardly knew, or didn't know at all, that showed me that we really are a part of a community -- the human community. So, stay strong and know that you can do this and you are not alone!
Oh, and I'd like to invite you to join my "support" group called GROW -- Good Reason to Order Wine...gotta find the humor in it all...

Well said, dcd and Gardyloo! (dcd, your message was very clear to me)
In the earlier thread I said I firmly believe in the power of prayer / positive thinking, and I'm so happy our well wishes were well received! More good thoughts being sent your way. My fingers are still firmly crossed for Jerry and Mimi!!

P.S. FSM. with all due respect, you have stated your opinion. No one is going to change your mind, nor will you change theirs. I would recommend that when there are posts that are irritating, you just refrain from opening them. Always works for me.
