wondering,
you make a good point, maybe "the unbearable lightness of being" is best, no added weight. Oh well, I've already ordered, so we'll see.

Actually, comfort for me is very important, I own bags with long enough straps that just will not stay put on my shoulder, drives me crazy.
That's one of my important litmus tests.

I just bought one at Old Navy for $15.
It's a military style shoulder bag.

HI
sounds promising
what is it made of?
Does it all zip closed, and are there any internal zipped pockets?

Reporting back on one that I'd ordered
ebags.com #2026-044

microfiber tote
Size: 16" x 13.75" x 4.5"
Weight: 1 lb, 4 oz

currently $19.99

I haven't traveled with it yet,but it looks very promising. It is vertical, the straps are comfortable, and it seems like they will stay on my shoulder. I can comfortably rest one hand on the bag for added security. Bag has one zipped exterior pocket, one large and one small zipped interior pockets, and a large open section that closes with a snap.

I LOVE my Tumbuk2 messenger bag (www.timbuk2.com). Their metro mini is a nice, small bag but I went for the smallest size 'Classic.' It holds tons of stuff and can be customized with colors/pockets/handles, all to your specs. Excellent construction, these can take lots of abuse.

Typo there. The name is Timbuk2, and they're made in San Francisco.

HI
the Baggalino tote expandable microfiber tote also arrived.
It's pretty large, it would make a good carryon/purse for the plane, and good to stash in the suitcase in case you need it to tote home some breakable purchases. As a day bag while I'm on the go, if it were packed full it would be much too heavy for me, so for treking around cities I'll use
the ebag 2026-044 already mentioned above.

I got my Baggalino bag, same as Elaine. It stays comfortably on my shoulder so I think it will do the trick. Did I mention that it's sturdy enough to carry a bottle of wine or two?
