I read some time ago, on this forum, about Boots being an absolutely marvellous place to shop. If I remember correctly they sell many items from travelling accessories through to food. Is this correct or am I way off the mark? Do they sell the same products in all their branches, as in London?<BR>I apologise if this query has been answered in previous posts but I have tried searching the archives but found it difficult to sift through all the information.<BR>Thanks.

Boots is sort of like an understated CVS. Some shops have packaged sandwiches, bottle drinks, etc. that are an acceptable quick bite (like you're waiting for a bus and realize you haven't eaten for 5 hours). They have their own brand of makeup which is excellent.<BR><BR>Some stores have additional soft goods, as well as the usual supply of otc drugs. We go for the makeup!<BR><BR>

They also have some fantastic foot products (foot cream, really refreshing foot spray) under the Boots label. A godsend after all the walking!

Yes: Boots does cosmetics (both own brand and the international ones), toiletries, travel accessories, chealth food, sandwiches and other lunch snacks, toys, baby food, baby accessories and baby clothing, even cameras I think. I suppose something else too, can´t remember it all. In bigger stores they have an optician and a pharmacy etc. <BR><BR>One of the things I do miss about Britain. You never need to think twice where to go to for that sort of things.

There's a joke (of sorts) concerning Boots in Britain right now. Some wag said that the way to differentiate a mere town from a city is by counting how many 'Boots' it had. If it had at least five, it's a city. Forget about the old factors, like having a cathedral or a university. <BR>Boots is good. The one in Kensington and a similar one in Manchester are massive. They do dentistry, chiropody, massage, waxing etc. <BR>Not sure how 'green' it is, though. I think their own brands are cruelty-free, but it ain't Body Shop.

Ah, Boots, god, I love it. You can find almost anything you need there, and they are *every*where. Another chain that's similar is Superdrug. They seem to have more travel sized toiletries. That *is* one thing that Boots--or any other store that I can find--doesn't carry. (Unlike Rite Aid or Fred Meyer here.) Don't the Brits want baby powder in the one ounce size?

Boots, like Marks and Spencers, is part of the national psyche. Originally a pharmacy (everyone one has a pharmacy counter), you can now, depending on the size of store, find everything from hair dye to hair dryers, photo processing and cameras, snacks, gifts, etc, but their core produce is pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. <BR><BR>They generally sell the same things in every shop, although clearly the bigger the shop, the bigger the range.<BR><BR>Their stores are bright and spotless, their ranges are generally huge, their own brand goods are top quality.<BR><BR>It doesn't surprise me that visitors to the UK love it (I've heard Hollywood stars raving about it).<BR><BR>You will not find a single Brit who does not shop in Boots on a regular basis, andf it seems that you're never more than 20 feet from one.<BR><BR>That's all for now. The best thing about Boots is the people who work there. On the plane on the way to London in February I poked myself in the eye. (Yeah, yeah, I know, but it was really quite painful. In fact the flight attendand brought me an icepack and even offered to have paramedics waiting at the gate when we landed.) After checking in to the hotel I made it round the corner to Boots for eye drops and the cashier was wonderful. Even had me sit down and put the drops in for me. <BR><BR>BTW, I think there is a Boots about every half block on Victoria Street near the Victoria Station!

Agree with the above sentiments, Boots is indeed almost a National Institution! You always know what to expect in Boots, eg, bright, clean and they stock almost anything you might wish for(apart from clothes).. You always feel secure in the knowledge you will come away with what you went in for. Superdrug is a downmarket version, but they compete on prices.

LOVE Boots! And, yes, they're everywhere! I get my lip balm there (black casing, plum color), as well as Tylonol 3 over the counter (Panadol Ultra).

I am laughing sooo hard after reading this thread. All of the elitists are oohing and awing about Boots, when they wouldn't admit they shop at Wal-Mart. Hell, they would probably complain about how EVIL Wal-Mart is, and how it is an example of how Americans are lemmings that just follow ads, and Europe is not like that, it is sooo much better over there...
