Books/Videos on Germany

Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a picture book or video about Germany? I'm not looking for much history, just pictures of different cities, towns, scenery, and maybe some info about culture, etc. <BR><BR>I'm in the U.S., by the way. I've checked the online booksellers (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.) but no one seems to have a nice coffee table-like picture book or video.

Try your public library.

Public libraries usually have lots of Rick Steves' travel video series. He has quite many about Germany. Check your library. The only tough part is that the librarians do not seem categorize them uniformally so need to look under several ways: Steves, Rick; Travel World; European Travel, etc.

Thanks for your replies. I actually went to the library after work but it seems our library isn't the greatest source of info on Germany, other than history. I did get a video on Germany's castles, though.<BR><BR>Any hints on where I can buy books/videos?

Jill, Eyewitness Guides are fabulous, with beautiful pictures. You can find them on Amazon.com or Powells.com, or at your local bookstore.

Further confirmation that Morning Giggle has used that name for years.

Go to www.amazon.de, the German Amazon. Go to English books, Travel.

As to Video, make sure you get one that is in the NTSC format. German PAL videos won't work, although DVD's seem to work on my DVD player.

This post is old, but some posters might still be interested in the topic. For German travel ideas, you don't need to buy videos. You can watch a wide range of German travel videos free online at:
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,1595,4756,00.html

Their Discover Germany travel series is really interesting and gives ideas you'd never get on the more mainstream, beaten-path videos like Rick Steves, etc.
You can also get more Germany travel tips from DW at:
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,1595,7550,00.html

Also good is DW's Insider's Guide to German Cities:
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,...066288,00.html

Click on the cities listed and many of the articles are accompanied by free videos that you can watch. The DW take on German travel strikes me as more contemporary and less staid than traditional travel books/videos.

I would like to get my hands on the Christmas in Germany video hosted by Loretta Swit that was shown on TV several years ago. We videotaped the show but accidentally taped over it months later. Anybody have a copy they would be willing to dupe??
