Booking seats on KLM?

I have reservations on KLM, which is handled by NWA in the US. Both the NWA website and the NWA agent tell me that I cannot book my seats now but must wait until 90 days before the flight. Since I will be flying two very long (one overnight, the second all day) legs in economy, I have more than the usual concern about seats. I am wondering if there is a way around this...there does not appear to be any way to contact KLM directly here in the US, short of calling Amsterdam.
Even then, the NWA agent told me that KLM will also not book seats until 90 days out.

I have never experienced this...is this usual and is there any way to book seats more immediately?

You have to wait. Write it on your calendar; I did this last summer for a trip to Tanzania. Patty on the Africa board, or any number of folks on the airline board may have more info, but I'm 95-99% sure this is the deal.

Yes, it's a hassle.

Same here.

We have always had to wait until we were within the 90 day window.

We have always called on the first or second eligible day and have never had a problem.

Hi, Leely..there you are again!

Thanks for the confirmation..I thought there might be a way around it by calling a secret number! I did write down the date on my calendar and you know who will be the first one calling on June 21!

I can't even imagine getting stuck in a horrible seat for those two long back-to-back flights! On the airline board, someone mentioned being able to book the AMS-CPT leg sooner....I posted a question there just in case!

Thanks again!

It helps if you are a member of the NW frequent flyer program. Some of the best seats are reserved for members. It doesn't cost anything to join. Be sure to mention your membership when you talk to the rep.

Good luck!

But if I am already a member of Flying Blue..the KLM/Air France "club," (former Frequence Plus) would that not help? It did not seem to have any effect on advance seat booking..

In my experience it would be moot. More ofter than not, I do not get the seats that I booked in advance anyway. That includes KLM in both directions.
