Bolzano or Trento for one night?
My parents and I are trying to decide whether to stay in Bolzano or Trento, for one night, on the way to Venice. They both sound lovely, but we only have time for one. Any thoughts? We are very food- and history-oriented, love walking through old places, seeing old buildings, eating great local (and non-touristy!) foods. Thanks!

It's a fairly close call, but I vote for Trento. There is more significant history in Trento, and the main square (Piazza Duomo) is one of the most beautiful in Northern Italy (late Renaissance). If you're arriving by train, it's a five minute walk (similar logistics for Bolzano).
If you're drawn more by Austrian and Tyrolean architecture, Bolzano would be your choice.

Thanks to all...my choices are actually limited to places easily accessible by train from Venice (I will be in Venice, my parents are driving down from Prague so I am trying to meet them somewhere along the way for them that I can take the train to fairly easily)...so I think it would have to be Bolzano or Trento. Trento does sound beautiful - you've convinced me! Thanks again.
