Bologna / Ferrari for one day by train
We have been to Florence and have stayed in the Tuscany region as well and love them both but want to see another area that would be a one-day trip. My husband suggested visiting the Ferrari Museums, so I started looking at Bologna.
I was thinking of taking a train to Bologna and to visit one or two of the museums and possibly do a 1 hour driving experience (this would be a surprise for him).
There are several museums from what I have read, and we will only have the day so I want to ask which one would be the best, he doesn't like big crowds.
Is there a recommended 1 hour driving tour or website?

My husband is a car nut, albeit more Porsche than Ferrari, so we have been to the Ferrari museums in Modena and Maranello as well as other super car museums/factories in the area.
First, where are you coming from that day or would you be starting from Bologna?
The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena is within walking distance of the Modena train station. It is comprised of two buildings... Enzo's original garage with displays of a couple of vintage Ferraris, his office and a modern museum building housing an exhibit on the history of Italian auto racing and many cars (not always all Ferraris) in a large space. I really like this museum complex.
The Ferrari Museum in Maranello is near the factory, about 35-40 minutes from Modena. You can take the "Factory Tour (bus)," but you don't see the interior of any building and not even a glimpse of the assembly line. No photos allowed of anything... even the employee cafeteria. I thought it wasn't really a "factory tour" and was a waste of time and money. My husband's reaction wasn't as negative, but he was disappointed. The Museum is large and gets a lot of bus and van tours coming and going throughout the day. Unless the exhibit space has been expanded, I thought many areas were too cramped to give good views of the cars. Too many people were touching the cars, leaning on them to get selfies, etc. Just not my idea of a museum.
When we first did this Ferrari day, we didn't have a car and used a shuttle bus that operated on a circuit from the Modena train station to the Enzo Ferrari Museum to the Ferrari Museum and back to the Modena train station. This shuttle was suspended during Covid, but I think it's back.
There is a Ferrari ticket package that includes a 15-minute drive on the Autodromo track in Marzaglia which is located about halfway between Modena and Maranello. This didn't exist when we were last in this area, and I don't know how you'd get there without a car. There were also some independent vendors in Maranello that offered 15-minute drives on local streets, obviously at low speeds. My husband had no interest in this. There may be other options for driving a Ferrari; just do some googling.
